Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

New news!

Celebrating Catholic Education Week!!

This week, we celebrate Catholic Education Week with a variety of activities planned for the whole school! We appreciate and recall the commitment of the Sisters of Mercy who started our school here in Mooroopna.

According to some sources, Mooroopna had it’s own school as early as 1877 when the first St. Mary’s Church was opened in Mill Street. There was certainly a school operating in the church by 1880.

In 1933, the parish priest, Fr. Hugh Ryan, led the beginning of the construction of a presbytery and school on the corner of Toolamba Road and McLennan Street! The school/church was officially blessed in 1936, with the Sisters of Mercy, Sister Alban and Sister Annina, the two staff members for 60 students!!

The school/church was in use until 1962 when three new classrooms, an office and a staff room were built. And look at our amazing facilities now!!

We have been blessed with visionary leadership in the past and this continues today!

Please see the poster below which lists the Catholic Education Week activities we are celebrating this week!
