Primary Sport - Britton Shield
Britton Shield Football (Soccer)
The Football Carnival on Friday 15 July was a great success with the boys fulfilling our ambition to participate, have fun, and play fairly, friendly and with College spirit. Every goal in football is the culmination of a great team effort; however, we recognise those boys who managed to make the final touch on the ball before hitting the net: Captain Dan (4 goals), Akki (3 goals), Henry S (2 goals) Zach B and Darwin.
Well done to the under 8s, who managed two wins, two draws and with just the one loss they narrowly missed out on a place in the finals. Ipswich eventually won the division with a “shoot out”; however the Clayfield College team managed to beat them in the preliminaries as a testimony to the closeness of the competition. Both the under 10 and under 12 teams managed to win a game which is commendable considering the difficulties of training experienced due to inclement weather.
Term 3 Aquathon
Training for aquathon will be on Fridays 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm starting 22 July, meeting at the College pool. The following boys are to attend Aquathon training: Hugo H, Hugo F, Euan, Aki, Darwin, Oliver, Henry, Charlie, Liam, Ronav, Luca, Wynton and Zack B. With the previous Head of Boys Sport from Moreton Bay Boys College, Ms. Cerene Hughes, now coming to be the Head of Sport at Clayfield College there could be a change of venue and date for the competition. Check the Clayfield Collective for updates each week.
Term 3 AFL
Unfortunately, there hasn’t been adequate interest shown for an AFL team to be arranged. Thank you to the following boys who did register an interest: Lyn Zhang, Wynton and Quinton Poon, Zach Slater, Liam Hong, Aki Kato and Charlie Quinn. Hopefully, there will be a team in 2023.
Term 4 Cricket
Training will commence in the first week of Term 4 with the event scheduled for 21 October. More details to come.

Volleyball Wrap Up
Sasha Petrenko (Volleyball Captain)
The first round of QGSSSA Volleyball started off with success for Clayfield, with two out of four teams securing their first win. The Year 9 team defeated St Margaret’s, winning two sets to one and the Senior A team made it look easy when they took the win in three straight sets.
However, fortune was against the Year 7 team when they lost two sets to one, but they showed us their never-give-up attitude by taking the final set. And finally, our Opens started strong, winning the first two sets but couldn’t score a win and lost two sets to three to St Margaret’s. Let’s hope we can get a win next round! Year 8 had a bye this round, but we wish them luck for their debut against St Peter’s this Saturday. Go Clayfield!
Netball Wrap Up
Ellie McGuire (Netball Captain)
Our Senior A’s saw great success on the court with a 34-22 win, starting the season undefeated. Keep up the great work, girls! Despite a highly competitive round, the Senior B team saw some great highlights but suffered a loss of 54-1. For their first game together, their cohesion on the court was unequalled.
Even though they didn’t win, the Year 9’s spared no effort, leaving them with a very close score of 20-14. Their game saw some great intercepts and ball control down the court, which with no doubt will continue to progress throughout the season.
Our Year 8B team played a friendly match; their effort and competition on court was unmatched. The friendly match was a great opportunity that allowed our younger girls to gain some more experience and put aside the competitive environment. Next week we play St Peter’s Lutheran College, which should be another highly competitive round that our teams are looking forward to.
Tennis Wrap Up
Cadence Thorne (Tennis Captain)
For the first round of winter fixtures played against St. Margarets, all the Tennis girls were excited to get out on the court after weeks of pre-season training. It was a tough match, which tested the Opens girls' knowledge and ability, ending with a loss of 31-10. With incomplete teams due to sickness, the rest of the tennis squad tried their hardest with two wins in the Senior A singles, 6-3 and 6-2. The Junior team, filled with nerves for their first QGSSSA tennis match, smashed it out with super efforts and passion, the result being a 36-4 loss. Round 2 will commence next Saturday morning at the College against St. Peter’s and every girl is ready to give it their best shot once again.
