News from the Prep Room

This week we have been super busy in Prep. In Maths we are exploring patterns, copying patterns, identifying patterns using letter names… ‘Is this an ‘ab’ or an ‘abc’, or an ‘aab’ pattern? We have made some cute octopus and Jellyfish creatures displaying a variety of patterns with paper chains.

In Science we are exploring different materials and yesterday we became real scientists and tested a range of materials, so that we could decide on which materials would be handy to have on our party hats on a rainy day.

Next we will be exploring sun safe hats and creating party hats for a sunny day.

Coco our Koala

This past week Coco has been spending time in Kim's 2/3 class.  Coco has been reading stories to the group and helping to keep them entertained during wet weather timetables this past week. Coco has really enjoyed the kindness class 2/3 have shown her/him and really enjoyed an outing out in the yard at recess.

Thank you Kim, Kath and 2/3 students for a lovely week.

Artist in Schools Project with Alison Plasto

This week Alison Plasto has worked with the Grade 5/6 students in partnership with the Artists in Schools Program to put into film their stories from last week.  Students dressed up as characters from the stories they developed in their groups and filmed and edited it. A lot of time, co-operation, and resilliance was seen during this part of the process.

Class 3/4 with Joel and Mary-Anne

Our class has taken the time to weave a piece of work known as an Ojo de Dios. They chose coloured pieces of wool and constructed an "X" to weave a pattern.

The "Ojo de Dios" is an ancient symbol made by the Huichol Indians of Mexico and the Aymara Indians of Bolivia. In Mexico, the central eye was made when a child was born. Each year, a bit of yarn was added until the child turned five at which point the Ojo was complete. It is a symbol of protection.
