Assistant Principal's Report

Assistant Principal’s Report 5th August

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the community, in my four-week stint as Acting Principal. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all our children, staff, families and local community members in assisting the learning and social opportunities for our students. Greg Lacey will recommence on Monday 8th August after his well-deserved extended break.

Parent Teacher Interviews

It was pleasing to talk with a range of parents and carers at last week’s Parent Teacher Interviews. The positivity I heard from parents and staff in being able to conduct the meetings face to face was wonderful.

Team Kids

Next week, Team Kids will farewell Arkie who is taking up a position in Team Kids closer to her home. Arkie has been at Lyndhurst PS from the start of Team Kids operations in 2020. She is a well-loved member of our community and on behalf of our school, I’m sure you will join me in wishing Arkie all the best at the new centre.

Rebekah Young will take on the role, left by Arkie from 10th August. More information about Bec can be found in this edition of our newsletter. Welcome, Bec.

Spare Clothes

In recent weeks we have had a mixture of rain and sunshine. Unfortunately, the amount of rain has impacted our oval and the surrounding area. It is highly recommended that all students have some spare clothes in their bags, just in case they slip into the muddy and waterlogged areas. Our grounds staff have blocked off certain areas and students are reminded of appropriate play, however, sometimes getting wet does occur. Spare clothes should be packed for all students, even those in the senior years.

Before and after school traffic

Please be weary when arriving and leaving the school area for morning drop-offs and pick-ups. I have been made aware of some near misses with cars and students before and after school from staff and parents. On both occasions cars were not parked in designated parking zones, rather the cars were still on the road and the children were ushered from off the path into their vehicle.

May I suggest that to avoid congestion, arriving around 8:45am and leaving around 3:45pm as they tend to be quieter times.

Helping by slowing down and parking in the appropriate areas does help all our community to be safe. Another possible option is to ride or walk to school as a family. It is also a great way to exercise, minimise traffic congestion and reduce vehicle pollution.

Isabella – State Schools Victoria representation in Tennis

Congratulations to Isabella in Year 6B who will represent Team Vic as a part of the State Schools Victoria tennis team. This is an outstanding achievement of effort, persistence and dedication to reach this level. Isabella will head to Canberra in Term 4, where she will compete in a national tournament against other states and territories.

Baby News

Last week Ash Hilliard introduced daughter number two into the world, Emilia. Congratulations to Ash and the family and we look forward to meeting her in the near future.

Loose Change fundraiser

Thank you for supporting our Loose Change fundraiser where $2373.25 was raised to support some of our wellbeing programs. Thank you to the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) who oversaw this initiative. I know there are some excited grades who will be having some pizza parties be raising the most money.

Kind regards,

Jamie Sharp
