Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our Year 6 students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation yesterday. It was a beautiful faith filled celebration where Bishop Tony highlighted the Year 6 students becoming young adults and the importance of making a difference in the world using the gifts of the Holy spirit : Knowledge, understanding, wonder and awe, wisdom, courage and reverence. I would like to thank Peter and the Year 6 teachers for preparing the students and our wonderful parents for supporting this wonderful Sacrament.

Year 6 is such an important year and occasions such as Confirmation are really special celebrations in our Catholic school. It is wonderful to be part of our Westernport Parish where students form friendships with students from our other Parish schools. Some senior students will participate in a Mini Vinnies workshop and LITSTEM workshop at Padua Tyabb this Thursday as we strive to ensure all senior students are prepared for Secondary. Year 5 students will connect with other students at Westernport College on Wednesday.

We celebrate the growth our Year 6 students made in the first Semester of 2022 making double the national growth in their Maths. Please keep supporting your child by ensuring all students are doing their home learning- reading every night and fluency and word work as the practice and repetition of basic facts makes a big difference to their learning growth.

Thank you to all parents who came to Family Fun Friday in the Bunjil community where students showed parents some of their Maths skills.

We are working on a special Maths project with staff from Catholic education and I thought I would share some feedback from Jan and Jo, our Maths consultants.

‘It is always a great privilege to engage in rigorous conversations with the teachers at St Joseph’s Crib Point, when designing challenging and engaging learning experiences, to support ALL students in mathematics.

It is evident that the teachers know the particular needs of their students, hence rich mathematics tasks are planned, to enhance each student’s growth and progress.’

Friday was a very special day in our school showcasing many of our wonderful achievements to our school reviewer. Kylie was most impressed with our students and the way they could articulate their learning and all of the extraordinary things we do in our school. I look forward to hearing the recommendations for future growth and all of the celebrations from our review.

We have such a wonderful school at St Joseph’s and I am privileged to lead our team every step of the way to ensure every student grows and shines. Please always email me or make an appointment if you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s learning. I am at school and available every day so please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please keep Anne- Marie Houlihan in your prayers and thoughts as she is very unwell at the moment and will be off on leave for quite some time. We thank and appreciate all that Anne- Marie does to support and connect our parent community and will strive to continue to do this in her absence.

Some of the things we have planned for family school partnerships are as follows:

  • Dedicated social media campaign engaging with an expert in the field
  •  The Fathering project ( we have just received funding through Mornington Peninsula Shire) ,
  •  Family Fun Fridays expanding throughout  the school
  • Community Master class cooking classes for parent connection every second Wednesday led by our wonderful school chef Matt
  •  Trivia night for parents on  October 21st - save the date

We are soaring for excellence in our school. Please promote all that we do in our community. Our Joey’s transition program will commence in August. Please invite any prospective parents to come and take a tour.

With our Preps celebrating 100 days of Prep this Wednesday and  it is set to be another wonderful week of learning in our wonderful school.

Yours in partnership,
