 Term 3

Welcome to Term 3! It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the year. Students have had a great start to the term and have settled well into their classroom routines. Many students have commenced new electives and specialist subjects this semester which is always an exciting opportunity as they learn, develop and explore new skills and knowledge.

Students across the school will explore a new Discovery Unit this term focusing on the Physical World which is aligned with Earth and Space sciences. To further develop students’ understanding, meaningful connections between Discovery Units and literacy and numeracy is supported with the use of relevant texts, language experiences, excursions and activities. There are also interactive displays and activities at the Discovery Centre and in the MILE Room for students to explore.

Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings - Term 3

On Tuesday 9th of August we will have our Student Support Group Meetings for Term 3. This day will be a ‘Variation to School Day’ running from 10am - 6pm. The purpose of this SSG meeting is to share your child’s progress from their Semester 1 reports and to discuss their Semester 2 Individual Education Plan (IEP) learning goals. These meetings will run for 30 minutes and can be face to face, or via Webex.

This isn't a traditional day of schooling as students only attend for their individual SSG time as scheduled by parents/carers. This is so teachers can have 30 minute meetings with parents/carers and the student. The duration is longer to allow for more in-depth discussion and when available and appropriate, for external therapists to be invited. Please liaise with your external therapist if you would like them to attend your booking and let your classroom teacher know that they will be attending. For some students, it might not be appropriate for them to participate in their SSG, feel free to discuss this with your classroom teacher.

The bookings for these SSGs will go live on Compass on Tuesday 2nd August. Before this date you will receive information from your classroom teacher about how to book your SSG and you will receive a list of specialist teachers for your child from Semester One and for Semester Two. (*Please note that bookings with specialist teachers are only 15 minutes in duration). The Allied Health team will be attending relevant bookings with the classroom teacher.
