Our Big Back Yard project (OBBY)

See our OBBY team in action!

On Saturday, 7th December the LNPS student members of the Our Big Back Yard (OBBY) team will be surveying children and families at the Apex Park Opening.  A big thank you to Isaac, Liam, Chloe, Lucas M and Lucas H, who have each made time amongst their busy sporting and social commitments to attend the opening along with Mrs Saxon.

Come along with your family and be the first to experience this new local redevelopment, at Apex Park this Saturday!

Our Big Backyard (OBBY)

Our Big Backyard (OBBY) is a nature-based play program for children under 12, that encourages family connectedness through play and exploration.  This project has a community engagement focus where families and children are consulted and encouraged to explore where they live and who they share the community with.   OBBY was first developed and implemented in Southern Adelaide, incorporating Aldinga and Christies Beach. The resources developed through this project include:

children’s play maps

a list of things to do that are free and outdoors

activity sheets that are both fun for children and informative for parents and carers.

This project aims to highlight the outdoor spaces in our local community for children and families to visit and connect with each other. So often, we are unaware of the great spaces we can visit with families and friends that are close by, and this project aims to highlight these spaces and create a free resource for families and education sites to use, to get outdoors and into the local community. This OBBY project will focus on the suburbs of Underdale, Brooklyn Park, Cowandilla, Lockleys, Hilton, Mile End and Torrensville.

Lockleys North Primary School along with Lockleys Children’s Centre are partners in this project alongside the City of West Torrens, Cowandilla Children’s Centre and Natural Resources Management.

This project aims to:

highlight the outdoor spaces in our local community for children and families to visit and connect with each other

create a free resource for families and education sites to use, to get outdoors and into the local community, to be launched in October 2020
