Knowing cohorts, knowing learners
With Natalie and Rosemary
At Lockleys North Primary School we have a culture of staff focussing on improving their pedagogy, a strong focus on lifting our students’ achievement levels and a consistent R-7 approach to learning.
The aim of our Term 4 Pupil Free Day was to analyse 2019 student assessment data involving a deep analysis of our cohort of learners R-7. Staff collaborated to strengthen their understanding of teaching approaches that clearly link with the school’s Site Improvement Plan and the success criteria for measuring impact and outcomes for student learning. Analysis of assessment data gave staff a deeper understanding of cohorts of learners and individuals, to develop effective learning programs. Collecting, understanding and taking action on student data is continuous at LNPS, to improve teaching and learning experiences, and monitor student progress.
Along with analysing the data, staff focussed on goals for improvement, to challenge and stretch all learners. From there, we were able to set goals/targets for 2020 and 2021 for cohorts and individual students and align these targets with best teaching practices to achieve our goals.
The following diagram depicts the Department for Education improvement cycle and clearly outlines the focus and outcomes from the day.
Early in Term 1 (Friday 7th February) Governing Council has given approval for a Pupil Free Day for staff to continue this in-depth look into student data, to know our cohorts and individual learners and to design programs to ensure optimum learning outcomes for all students.
