School Cricket Round 5

School cricket – Lightning Carnvial, Friday 22/11/19

This week we had a Lightning Carnival instead of our usual Saturday morning game for our C Grade team.  It was at the Karen Rolton oval, and we had the opportunity to play against schools from other districts.  It was modified rules which made things a little more interesting, including something called ‘electric boundaries,’ which meant that if you hit a boundary (a 4 or a 6), you also still had to run and that would be added on to your score.  For example, if you hit a 4, and ran three while the fielders were retrieving the ball, you got a total of 7.

There were three rounds, unfortunately we weren’t given a copy of the scores, so I can’t comment on what they were.  At the end of the three rounds, the scorers collected all the results and points were given for win/loss, wickets taken and runs scored.  Out of 18 teams we came 15th, and Magill Primary School came 1st.

Molly was away for this game, but playing at the carnival was Hayley, Jasper, Cooper, Mitchell, Brendon, Kobe, Chloe, Ethan, Murray and Calvin.  We could only have 8 playing at a time, so some players were rostered off in the rounds.

Thank you to Michael and Russell for umpiring.  Thanks to all the other parents who were able to come along for support.

There was a free bbq there and two Redbacks players attended as special guests.

This Saturday we have a home game against Grange Primary White.  The game starts at 8:30am so feel free to bring your chair and watch the game.

Round 6

Unfortunately, Saturday’s game was cancelled due to rain.  This coming Saturday will be our last game for the year, and we are playing against West Lakes Shore Primary School at our oval at 8:30am.  Feel free to come along and support out team.

As it is the last game for the year, we will be having a presentation and barbeque.  Some of the parents have volunteered to help organize the presentation as well as cook the sausages on the bbq.  Some players have to take off to other sports and birthday parties straight after the game, so the medal presentation will take place immediately after the game.

2020 School Cricket competition

Is your child interested in playing cricket next year?  We are looking for boys and girls of all year levels who would like to play.

It would be great to get some more teams in the competition, and to have teams in the Kanga cricket (years 2 and 3), C Grade (Years 4 and 5), B Grade (Years 5 and 6) and A Grade (Years 6 and 7).  There is also a possibility of being Girls only competition next year, so if you are interested in playing in a Girls team, please let me know. An expression of interest for playing cricket next year is attached below, you can collect from the front office or contact me on 0418 902 862.

More information will come out at the start of Term 1 next year.

One of the questions I am often asked is do the kids need their own equipment?  It is certainly an advantage if they do have their own but is not a requirement as there is equipment for the kids to use provided by the school.  School cricket is a great way for kids to test the waters and see if they would like to play cricket for a club, without the expense of club fees or having to purchase equipment.

Cheers,

Pauline Robinson
