Subject Selection time for Year 8 and Year 10

On Monday 22 August, Boorowa Central School will be hosting our annual Subject Selection Evening. This evening is for all students entering Year 9 and Year 11 in 2023, and their parents.

This valuable evening will provide students and their parents with all the information they require to make educated decisions about their pattern of study in Stage 5 (Year 9 and 10) or Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12) in 2023. The evening will be presented by Ms Hawkins and myself, with all faculty leaders in attendance to answer any questions you may have.

The evening begins at 6pm with a presentation for Year 9 2023 students and parents followed by the presentation for Year 11 2023 students and their parents at 7pm.

The evening will be held in the Boorowa Central School Library and a light supper will be provided.

I look forward to meeting with you on the night to discuss the next exciting step in your child’s education journey at Boorowa Central School.

Headspace for Hilltops

The Hilltops Youth Action Group is running a petition to have a Headspace established in the Hilltops region. Headspace provides early mental health intervention to 12-25 year old’s and if accessed, can significantly reduce the likelihood of a young person suffering from prolonged or critical mental health issues. This service is critical for our young people to access and currently the nearest Headspace is in Cowra.

Please follow the link below to sign the petition and show your support of this great initiative.

Well done Hilltops Youth Action Group for taking this on.

Reminder of ‘Pause Point’

With many excursions coming up for Primary and Secondary, it is important that each student is meeting the minimum expectations to attend.

To attend these excursions, students must:

  • Wear full school uniform everyday (including black leather shoes)
  • Display respect, responsibility, and participation every day (avoid being placed on an Orange Card or suspended)
  • Complete all assessment tasks (Secondary)

If a student does not meet these expectations, they will be at ‘Pause Point’. Whilst at ‘Pause Point’ a student cannot attend an excursion unless they, and their parents, meet with Ms Hawkins or Mr Jones to sign a ‘commitment to improve’ contract.

These expectations are supported by all staff and the P&C. If you wish for your child to attend excursions, please support them to wear their full uniform, complete their assessment tasks and behaviour in a safe and respectful manner at all times.

Uniform

As I highlighted above, if a student does not wear full uniform, they can be placed at ‘Pause Point’. This placement occurs after 5 ‘out of uniform’ records in Millennium by the Roll Call Teacher.

What can parents do to help?

Support the school by providing appropriate uniform items and strongly encouraging your child to wear full school uniform each day.

The boys and girls school, and sports uniform, is listed and can be viewed here. All items can be purchased from Young Embroidery Services (YES). Additionally, the school canteen stocks the blue Boorowa Central School Jacket, a must in the winter months.

The school is also well resourced with a pool of second-hand donated uniforms which are free for any school student.

I would also like to clarify two aspects that are frequently misunderstood:

  1. ‘Hoodies’ have no place in the school uniform, either on top or underneath uniform. If your child wants additional layers for warmth, they can wear singlets under their uniform or a coat over their uniform (preferable blue).
  2. Shoes must be black leather, either running shoe style or school shoe style.

Year 12 Trial HSC Examinations

Good luck to our Year 12 students who sit their final school-based assessment tasks next week. These Trial HSC Examinations are the most important assessment tasks of their schooling life, to date, and can set the students up with the confidence they require to succeed in their upcoming HSC examinations.

A reminder that Year 12 students are expected to wear full school uniform for these examinations.

Parent Teacher night and afternoons

Thank you to all the parents who joined us last week for Semester 1 parent teacher interviews. It was great to see so many of you back on school grounds again, gaining valuable insight regarding your child(ren)’s learning progress at our school. However, don’t think you have to wait until these interviews to speak to your child(ren)’s teacher. Simply contact them front office and arrange a time that suits you both.
