Child Safety

Child safety and wellbeing at Scoresby Primary School: Information for families and the school community

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Child safety is a shared responsibility. Every person involved in our school has an important role in promoting child safety and wellbeing and promptly raising any issues or concerns about a child’s safety. We are committed to regularly reviewing our child safe practices, and seeking input from our students, families, staff, and volunteers to inform our ongoing strategies. The eleven Child Safety Standards are:

1. Cultural Safe Environments

2. Child Safety and Wellbeing is embedded in Leadership, Governance and Culture

3. Child and Student Empowerment

4. Family Engagement

5. Diversity and Equity

6. Suitable Staff and Volunteers

7. Complaints Process

8. Child Safety Knowledge Skills and Awareness

9. Child safety in the Physical and Online Environment

10. Review of Child Safety Practices

11. Implementation of the Child Safe Standards

Scoresby Primary School, in conjunction with our Education Sub-Committee and School Council, have begun the process of reviewing and updating our Child Safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These updated policies outline the measures and strategies we have in place to support, promote and maintain the safety and well-being of our students.  The following policies have been updated and will be uploaded to our website over the next few days:

  • Child Safety Policy
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct
  • Volunteers Policy
  • Visitors Policy
  • Digital Learning Policy

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and well-being and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.
