Science Week

From the 13th-21st of August, National Science Week will be taking place across the country. Each year focuses on a different theme with the 2022 theme being ‘Glass: More than meets the eye’.

This theme is based on the UN’s International Year of Glass. It will celebrate the many roles that glass plays in our lives – from phone screens to optical fibres to glassware in labs as well as the part glass will play in our sustainable future.

Solway students will celebrate National Science Week during Week 6. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers and participate in various activities such as exploring magnifying glasses, light refraction, making kaleidoscopes and utilising glass marbles in a Marble Run Challenge!

Science Club will also feature a glass-themed trivia competition for students across the school run by our Science Captains Chiara and Gianni!

**If students in Year 5/6 could bring in some cardboard and other materials from their recycling, that would be much appreciated!**
