Reconciliation Round of Competition

This weekend we will hold our Reconciliation Round of Competition across all sports and debating.  Reconciliation Week takes place from 27 May (the date of the successful 1967 Referendum) to 3 June (the date of the High Court Mabo decision) every year and this year’s theme is More than a word. Reconciliation takes action.  We need to follow up our words this weekend with action in whatever way possible, moving from awareness to authentic action (State of Reconciliation Report 2021 | Reconciliation Australia). To learn more about Reconciliation see What is Reconciliation? | Reconciliation Australia.

We will acknowledge Country and the First Nations people prior to every match and debate across the College, and the 1st XV Rugby, 1st XI Football and 1st IV Tennis will wear our Aboriginal strip designed in conjunction with our brothers from St Joseph’s Alice Springs.  This is a special round we take part in with our competitors on the day.  Together, we stand for human dignity, respect, constitutional recognition, and reconciliation.

If you have not seen it yet I urge you to read and learn about the Uluru Statement from the Heart (Uluru Statement from the Heart ) – a treaty we are invited to be part of to make a better Australia for all.  (You may also wish to hear and see it artistically - Midnight Oil - Uluru Statement from the Heart (Read by First Nations collaborators) - Bing video )

We look forward to marking this special occasion with the community.
