Student Poetry

Year 8 reflections about their Outdoor Ed experiences.

This is only a small sample of some wonderful poems by

Mrs Herbert's English class.

Canoeing through Ellery Creek

Early morning,

Sun rises,

The light hitting the range

Glowing a bright welcoming orange.

Preparing for a boisterous day ahead,

The only day I didn’t actually want to be in my bed.

The nerves kick in,

Don’t tip the boat,

Don’t tip the boat!

‘Cause you won’t float,

Don’t tip the boat!

But I still get in,

Pushing off the bank,

The fear just disappeared.

Splash! as the paddle hit the ice-cold water -

A sense of freedom and calmness.

The Moon

I look up to the dark yet bright skies

I see no ball of fire

But instead a glowing face

I feel his warm smile

It radiates through the night

A large glowing light

I watch it disappear

I say goodbye for now

Then turn to see a beautiful pink

Like a painting

Just without ink

Bike

Up and down, up and down,

Hill after hill we ascend,

Up is pain, down is exhilaration,

Sweating away with mates,

Encouraging new friends.

Speeding down hills,

Toiling up slopes,

Struggling through sand,

Rattling over rocks,

Riding
