SPC Boarding  News

The boarders had another great week of learning and social experiences. It has been rewarding to see, the shared experiences between the two houses result in a growing support for each other and ultimately strengthening our special community. On Thursday evenings, a combined weekly meeting is being held to celebrate the past week’s successes and plan the coming week’s program.

At Monday’s Staff Meeting, a number of staff were part of a presentation outlining the SPCB program and its challenges. Staff were given the opportunity to be a part of boarding life.

On Monday evening, all boarders attended the Dark Skies Festival that was described by many as simply ‘awesome’! Some of the boarders knowledge of the night skies was very impressive. Thanks to Hamish McLoughlan for taking the initiative as part of the Graham Polly Farmer program to organize the boarders’ involvement.

Football continues to bring the houses together with seventeen boys/girls and rising involved in local teams and competing on Wednesday and Friday evenings and Saturdays. When not playing, a busload of supporters is there to cheer the others on.

This week the Year 8 camp has been run with fourteen boarders involved – a huge operation to get them ready! Those who have returned from the early camp were exhausted but positive about the experience.

On Sunday, all the boarders (generously sponsored by staff), took part in the Mother's Day Classic, completing the course to the Telegraph Station and then enjoying donuts on return.

A great cause that the boarders made a very positive contribution to the success of the event.

Girls' Boarding News

Over the weekend the Girls’ Boarding House saw several athletes tie up their shoes, put on their dresses and start their fierce netball competition. Good luck for the rest of the term, we all know you will smash it!

Wednesday afternoon, two of our special ladies came back from camp to the boarding house on cloud nine! Lekisha and Shanille were buzzing, tired and smelling of campfire. After putting a load of washing on and a shower, both were feeling rejuvenated and ready to start school the next day.

A huge happy birthday goes out to Ella Williams whose birthday was on Sunday, and Taylor Hayes whose birthday was Monday. Both of our beautiful girls turned 15, just one more year and they will be on the roads−look out world!

Boys' Boarding News

On Saturday night, the boy boarders were hosted for tea by Mrs Suellen Schubert. The boys were in awe of some of the house features and very appreciative of the hospitality shown them.

Training and playing means the boys are gaining a lot from their involvement in the Rovers and Federal Clubs. One has to be impressed with the commitment no matter what the score. Well done to the thirteen boys who are pulling on the boots.

Last weekend, Pedrea Jackson and Trinity Raggett were part of the Volleyball Camp held at the Bruce Reid Sports Centere here on campus. This was a great opportunity for the boys. Training hard for 8 hours a day was challenging but very rewarding for those who saw it through.
