Senior Camp - Ballarat
On Monday morning, eight of the Year 11 and 12 students along with Mr Perversi and Mrs Heffernan hopped on the mini bus and headed on our journey to Ballarat for school camp. Once we reached Ballarat we headed straight to Federation University where we would live on campus for the next three days. After unpacking and settling in we went to bounce where we spent an hour bouncing around and stretching our legs after the long trip. We then headed back to campus to rug up to then head to Schnitz for dinner. Schnitz was delicious and was topped off with an ice cream for dessert. After this it was time to go back for bed to prepare us for the big day planned on Tuesday. After dinner we met with a newly graduated Agronomist and Teacher and a current Paramedicine Nursing student from ACU. They discussed their interesting pathways to University and employment.
On Tuesday morning we all met up with Ray who works at Federation Uni who coordinated us for the day. We started the day off talking with Ray going through how Federation Uni works and the different career pathways available. After this knowledgeable session we split into two teams and did an activity called the amazing race. We were given a map and a question sheet to try and answer as best we could to win the game. This allowed us to explore the campus whilst learning all about it at the same time. We were all winners in the end and got to pick out a prize. We had lunch at the university cafe, which had very yummy fresh food.
Next up we all got on the mini bus and made our way to their TAFE site. George from TAFE led our tour through the safe building where we learnt all about the trade industry and the variety of career pathways. From there we had a quick look at the day care that is run by the Federation Uni and also the bakery and hairdressing sector.
Next we headed to the arts Federation university campus where we had a tour of the site. After lots of walking and touring we headed back to Fed Uni for one last session. Ray talked through lots of different study tips and then we had the chance to ask about any specific courses that we were interested in. We then had a quick look at the sports and nursing section of the Uni which were amazing facilities. After such a long day we treated ourselves with a movie at the cinemas followed by dinner at La Porchetta for pizza and pasta.
The next day we all packed our things and got on the bus for one last activity. We spent the next two hours at the Ballarat Art Gallery touring and learning about the art being showcased. We had the opportunity to see work by other VCE students and their portfolios, this gave us lots of insight. We then left Ballarat, stopping for lunch on our way. After the long drive we got back to school at around 4:30.
The camp was such a great experience for us all, exploring different aspects for everyone. We all learnt heaps and we’re privileged to have had the opportunity to stay on campus. Except for the cold temperature, no complaints were made.

Advance Camp
The 2021 Advance class had a wonderful trip away to Halls Gap in the Grampians this week. For two days they hiked up to the Pinnacle, splashed in waterfalls, cooked meals on Trangia stoves and battled the cold camping in tents. Without complaint they pushed their physical limits to reach the top and dove into the new experiences that were available. Challenging yourself is what this call is all about and I couldn't be more proud of the students for accepting and conquering all the physical and mental challenges that were presented.
