Change to Primary School Class Structure

From Monday May 17, students in the Foundation, Year 1 and 2 class are merging for their specialist classes which are generally held in lessons 4-6. They are remaining in the separate classes for Numeracy and Literacy lessons. 

 

Whole School Assembly 14.05

A whole School Assembly was held on Friday May 14 to present Age Group Champions with their medals from Athletics Sports Day. 

Congratulations to the recipients of the Christie Hallahan Encouragement Awards, Bailey O'Brien and Lolah Joubert for displaying a fantastic attitude on Athletics Sports day. Bailey was nominated to receive the award for his amazing attitude to participation and for just having a go, as well as for encouraging everyone on the day. Lolah received the award for helping out at the high jump, with timing and giving out ribbons and for always offering to help.

 

Art prizes were also presented to students by Ms Brennan on behalf of Leah Davies, from the West Wimmera Shire Youth Services. These students contributed artwork to a virtual art exhibition during Youth Week 2020.

 

Congratulations to Danika Hollis who was awarded first prize for her painting, second prize was won by Emma Toms and Tilly Milner took out third prize for her drawing. These three students won between $200 and $100. Chloe Dubois and Holly Whitehead also received $50 vouchers for their entries.

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser

The annual Edenhope College CF Fundraiser is took place on Thursday May 20. A full report from the day will appear in the next issue of Whytalla. 

An impressive $1,464.70 was raised by the casual clothes day and canteen that both Edenhope College and St Malachy's participated in. 

National Walk to School Day

Students participated in National Walk to School Day on Friday May 14. Bus travellers were dropped off at designated spots and met by teachers, who accompanied them to school. 

The national campaign aims to raise awareness of the benefits of regular walking can have on long term wellbeing of children. 

ICAS Assessments

ICAS have advised that the Assessments are once again available for 2021. Students who would like to participate will do the chosen assessment(s) online. ICAS Assessments are designed to recognise academic excellence. Students are assessed on their ability to apply classroom learning to new contexts, using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills. It is a voluntary assessment.

 

The dates of the assessments this year are:

Digital technologies - 9 - 13 August 

Science - 23 August - 27 August 

Spelling - 23 August - 27 August

Writing - 9 August - 13 August 

English - 16 August 2 - 20 August 

Mathematics - 30 August 2 - 3 September 

 

The cost of each assessment is $17.05 each with the exception of Writing which is $21.45. These prices include GST. Closing date for applications will be 30th June.

 

If you would like your child to participate in any or all of the ICAS Assessments, please contact the Office and a registration/Parent Permission form will be sent home.

Dental Van Visit - Term 3

Forms have been sent home with students regarding the Dental Health Visit early in Term 3. Please complete and return the form to the Front Office by May 31. Spare forms are available from the office. 

 

 

Dental Visit: will take place at Edenhope College the week of  July 19, 2021

Australian Dental Health Victoria is able to provide students with: 

• Check-ups • Examinations • Fillings • Root canals • Tooth strengthening fluoride varnish • Preventative mouth cleans • Protective coatings for permanent teeth • Free oral health education • Simple extractions • Orthodontic referrals for braces.

Book Fair - May 24 - 28

Edenhope College Library will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from Monday May 24 - 28. Students will be given the opportunity to view the fair with their class during the week. A lucky door prize will be given out each day that the fair runs. 

Attitudes to School Survey

Student voice is valued as a means to improve student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training. Students in Years 4-12 will be invited to complete the Attitudes to School Survey online during class time.Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, bullying and life in general.

Parents of students in Years 4-12 should have received a letter with more information regarding this.
