Curriculum and Student Engagement/Wellbeing
Our year 3, 5, 7 and 9 Edenhope College students have now finished working through the annual NAPLAN testing platform. The data is shared with parents and our College later in the year. NAPLAN measures where your child is at and compares results against state levels. It is used by the government to set school goals and is used in our local planning.
Year 10 and 11 students are moving towards their semester exams which are set in week 8. Within the same week our students studying Year 12 subjects will do the GAT (General Achievement Test), which is an annual test.
Our Year F-1 class has amalgamated for lessons 4 to 6 as of Monday 17th May and will be with Kim Thornton for Monday – Thursday and Kat Close all Friday. The F-1 and Year 2 classes will continue to stay separate for lessons 1-3 for their numeracy and literacy curriculum on Monday to Thursday. Both classes will continue the Read Write Inc support in their literacy classes to help students who may have lost ground in 2020. Kim is happy with student response to the program that is getting momentum this term and will continue into second semester.
Several new robots/computers have just been acquired for the Machines and Electronics elective in Term 3 and with a class of 21 there will be plenty of action happening. Students will wrap up their first round of electives at the end of term 2 and will enter into their new elective programs in Term 3. Our students continue to provide positive feedback regarding the 8 – 10 elective programs, and students are pleasingly showing the confidence to discuss growth areas for the subjects. We are looking to grow student agency and it is good students feel they have a voice, via the classroom or SRC to suggest changes that will help with their engagement and curriculum development.
Staffing
We welcome ‘back’ to our school Chad Frost who has accepted the position of our ongoing Assistant Principal. Chad started on 10/5/21. Part of his role is promoting SWPBS, working with student wellbeing, teaching and leading staff with PD. Chad and his wife Katie have lived and worked in Edenhope back in 2005 and 2006, playing sport locally and both are very community minded. They bring with them three children Eddie, Sid and Maggie. Katie and the children will look to move to Edenhope at the start of term three.
We thank Kathryn Close who is doing a fantastic job with student SSGs and helping above the call of duty while we are looking at restructuring our wellbeing team. We will be looking at a distributive model for wellbeing and will have expressions of interest going to staff in the near future. Wellbeing is a big focus here at Edenhope College and we want that to continue into the future.
A local Lady Cheryl Le Brun, who does some CRT work for us, has left for the next six weeks as she looks to qualify for the Para Olympics. Cheryl is only 30cm off breaking the ‘world record’ so I don’t think there will be an issue with qualifying for Tokyo!!
A big Thanks to Alannah Pearson for all her work to set up the Mothers Day afternoon last Friday in the primary. It was a fantastic day and the students loved having mothers and grandmothers in. Well done Alannah!
