Classroom News - Year 6

Mr Garraud & Mrs Walters

Art Appreciation

After Choir last week, Year 6 took some time to look at the artworks the rest of the school had submitted for the annual art show. We also took the opportunity to look at the winning artworks by Year 6 students Luke Peardon, Marisa Suluma and Jack Pearson. As students moved around the room appreciating the different artworks they left messages for the artists sharing the particular techniques or features that they noticed and enjoyed in their artworks.

Maths

In Maths, we have been working to improve our understanding of multiplication and division.

As a stimulus for discussion and problem solving we used the nursery rhyme:

As I was going to St. Ives,

I met a man with seven wives,

Each wife had seven sacks,

Each sack had seven cats,

Each cat had seven kits:

Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,

How many were there going to St. Ives?

Have a chat to your child about how they went about solving the problem, what strategies they used, and any difficulties they had.

Religion

In religion, we have continued learning about the sacrament of Confirmation and a part of this was reading the story of Samuel. Students were then able to make links between the story and the symbols of Baptism and Confirmation.

Congratulations to our students who made the sacrament of Confirmation on the weekend. This is a big step on your journey as a Catholic when you are endowed with the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

The confirmed students were recognised at our first morning assembly for the year.

As one of our last lessons for the unit, students participated in a reflective learning experience where we made the link between the gifts of the Holy Spirit and fruits, which come from the Holy Spirit to live and dwell inside of us. The students planted a 'Holy Spirit bean' as a symbol that the students have 'been given' the Holy spirit, and in the soil embedded the fruits that grow as a result.

Encourage your students to water their plant to see their fruit grow!

PS We would love to taste their harvest!

Kinder Buddies

Year 6 have absolutely loved having picnic lunches with Kinder
