Classroom News - Year 5
Mrs Fittler and Mr Lester
Religion:
We have just finished our Easter Unit and have just started our new unit, The Pentecost and the Holy Spirit.
English:
We are continuing with our unit of work, Images of War. Students are working hard on their assessment task where they are creating a picture book style double page spread about an aspect of WW1. We look forward to sharing some of their work with you in the next newsletter addition.
Students are also working on their public speaking in readiness for the St Joseph's Cup Competition. Please encourage your child to practice their poem at home as they will be performing in front of the class next week.
Science:
Year 5 are learning about different environments, especially Antarctica and the desert during Science lessons. We had a guest speaker on Monday, Louise Streeting (Charlotte Streeting's Mum) who gave us a very informative talk about Turtles living in the New England Area. She gave a presentation and taught the students about local environments and her work with UNE on saving our local turtle species and how she is increasing their numbers dramatically.
Mathematics: We are finishing our division unit of Mathematics this week. Our next unit is 'Run like the wind' which is a unit about length, time and decimals.
Eisteddfod:
Thank you to all parents for sending your child looking spick and span for the Eisteddfod on Tuesday. The students' performance was outstanding and many thanks to Mrs McNeall for preparing the students so well.
