Matific results :

Hi all,

A huge congratulations and well done to all our students who competed in the Matific Olympiad. Our school has ranked 113th out of thousands of schools and tens of thousands of students.  You all should be extremely proud.

Mrs Monaghan.

This week during remote learning we had our extension classes like usual. It is always great meeting the students and getting to hear their answers, their strategies and their reasoning. I am looking forward to seeing you all back here at school and continuing on our work in Maths.

The Year 3/4 students are learning about data representation and interpretation. I spun a spinner and they collected the data and represented it in a graph. They then had the opportunity to test the Viscosity of 4 liquids they chose and graph the results.  These are Christians results. Thanks for sending through your work Christian.

The students sitting the Maths Olympiad, are working on various problems and using strategies such as working backwards, trial and error and looking for patterns.

An equation had been written down, but smudged. The numbers were 8, 2, 3 and 7 but I couldn't see the operations. What was the equation if the answer was 40?

Using the numbers 7, 3, 8, 2 make 40

(8+2) × (7-3)= 40  by Nicholas Cicero 5/6VC

3 + 7=10, 8 x 10 = 80 and finally 80 ÷ 2 = 40  by Catherine Franchione 3/4GT

(8 + 2)  x  (7 - 3)  by Lachlan Ross 5/6VC

( 3 +7) x (8 divided by 2)  by Christian La Porta 5/6CF

8 divided by 2 = 4 and 3 + 7 =10 and 10  x  4 = 40  by Charlie Dinatale 5/6VC

8/2 = 4 x (3 +7) = 40  by Dante Surace 5/6CF

7 squared  - 8 + 2 - 3 = 40  by Jules Kisnorbo 5/6CF

This was his answer to this problem

2019 + 4038 + 6057 + N = 2020 + 4040 + 6060 + 8080

What is the value of N that makes this sentence true?

The juniors were investigating compatible numbers.

A reminder to everyone that we have wonderful art pieces by some of our Foundation students and our Year 3/4 students on exhibition at the Zart Art Gallery in Box Hill North.

When the travelling restrictions are lifted, please make some time to travel to the gallery and view the amazing masterpieces from our St Fidelis Artists and other young artists from other schools.

Kind regards,

Joe Frazzetto
