Who Do You Trust?

BY LANCE DAVIDSON (DEPUTY PRINCIPAL)

Trust is such an important part of relationships. Without trust we worry. We worry about what we can say to others. We worry about whether someone else is truly our friend. We hold things close to our chest and are never willing to let others into our world. We try to get through the ups and downs of life on our own. I don’t believe this is a healthy way to live.

We need to know that we have people in our life who we can trust, that we can share our joys, challenges and sorrows with. Having people we can trust helps us to feel more connected and more at peace. For me, I know I can trust my family and close friends. I can be honest with them and know they will have my back. Yet, I need more than that.

I trust God. I trust that He knows what I need and that He has my life in the palm of His hands. He will never leave me or let me down. Whenever I need to reach out to him, He will be there. If I stuff things up, He is ready to forgive me and doesn’t hold anything against me. He loves me for who I am.

I heard someone say recently that, ‘we need to help others develop their trust in God muscles’. Trust doesn’t just happen overnight, but develops bit by bit, just like strengthening muscles takes time. Can I encourage you to take the time to consider putting your trust in God, and finding out that He is someone worth trusting and that He will never let you down? He is ready and waiting for you to reach out to Him.

A favourite verse of mine is Isaiah 40:31 which states:

But those who hope (trust) in the Lord will renew their strength,

They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
