Head of Junior Years
Mrs Maria Denholm
The Junior Years had a very busy end to Term 3 and an exciting start to Term 4.
Year 4 Camp to Good Shepherd Hamilton Farm Stay
A huge thank you to those parents who accompanied staff and students on this camp. It was good to hear that you had a great experience and your help with supervising students was most appreciated. Here are a few photos from the last day.
Year 1 Teddy Bears Picnic
In the last week of Term 3, as well as beginning to move into the new JY Building, the Year 1 class held a Teddy Bears Picnic. This was a culmination of their Unit of Inquiry which focused on the use and purpose of different materials. The students designed clothing for their bears which they wore at the picnic. The new outdoor space in front of the JY Building was the perfect venue.
Holiday Competitions
During the school holidays, many students were involved in club competitions.
Congratulations to Ellie C for her Gymnastics awards and Kiana S for her Swimming medals.
Year 3 Learning Activities
The Year 3 students and teachers took advantage of the new JY kitchen to practice their fraction skills by baking cakes. Measuring ingredients and then equally sharing the cake with the class, was an authentic way to see the purpose of learning about fractions, with the added bonus of getting to eat cake!
Year 3 also had a visit from Professor Bunsen, who has been visiting Good News for 11 years! This visit really helped their Science based unit of inquiry come to life with practical applications.
New Junior Years Building
The Year 1 – 4 students and teachers have adapted well to using the new building. Last Thursday, when students were unable to go outside due to the wet weather, the ample spaces in the building enabled students to spread out and still enjoy their break times.
Year levels have created Essential Agreements to do with noise, balconies, wet area/kitchen, mindfulness time, classroom shelves, lining up, moving through the spaces and using the toilets. Students using the space do so with respect for the safety of others, the building, and the learning of all.
Congratulations
Arjun and Aadarsh I. have made it into the School Sports Victoria State Cricket team for 12 years old and under. Students from over 100 plus schools around Victoria participated in the trials and we are very proud that 2 students from GNLC made it to the final teams out of so many players. Arjun and Aadarsh will now be representing Victoria in the nationwide cricket tournament taking place in November this year. Arjun and Aadarsh’s parents would like to thank the Principal for supporting the boys and allowing them to participate and represent the school. Thanks also to the PC teachers, Mrs Nair and Mr Sack, for helping them with staying on top of their work, while also being able to participate in the events which are mostly during weekdays and during school hours. The final tournament will take place from 20 to 27 November 2022 and both the boys will travel to Shepparton. We hope they can make Victoria and GNLC proud.
Best of luck Arjun and Aadarsh!
