Mrs Fiona McAuliffe

There are three very significant events that occur in October that are particularly relevant to our community.

Monday 31 October - Reformation Day

Martin Luther’s study of the scripture led him to a path he recognised as religious truth and salvation. Luther summarised that the role of the Church is to provide nurture and outreach. The Lutheran Church has provided Lutheran schools as agents to assist with this. Therefore, Lutheran schools have been tasked with providing nurture and outreach on behalf of the Church.

The reformation that began on 31 October 1517 gave us some guidance regarding how we allow our young people to explore their spirituality through their natural curiosity.

Our Luther inspired legacy is:

  • A legacy of innovation. How do we change what we do to suit where we are now?
  • A view of God that revealed to us that we can have a personal relationship with Jesus. We have a God who comes to us, in so many ways. How do we recognise when He is present and allow Him to be part of our lives?
  • A clear example that we need to meet people where they are at – Luther did this through language, music, and pamphlets. How do we meet our young people where they are at?

Monday 24 October Diwali (Laxmi Puja)

The celebrations at this time start on 22 October with Dhanteras, the Festival of Gold and Metals. 23 October is Choti Diwali, when decorations are made and put out. 24 October is Diwali; the festival of lights is the highlight of these celebrations, which is followed by 2 more days of prayer and celebration.

Friday 21 October - Year 12s

Our most senior students celebrate thirteen years of schooling, as they complete their formal lessons on Friday 21 October.

At the start of November, many Year 12s will be starting their exams, at the same time as our community enters into the season of Advent. We will be praying for our Year 12s, as we prepare for the birth of Christ throughout the advent season. As the Hindu people celebrate the return of their ancient king through Diwali during October, Christians celebrate the coming of their Lord and Saviour, as we approach Christmas and the celebration of His birth.
