Aussie Bird Count

Greater Shepparton is preparing to participate in the annual Aussie Bird Count!

Birdlife Australia is our Nation’s largest bird conservation organisation, and every year they coordinate Australia’s largest citizen science project: The Aussie Bird Count.

The Aussie Bird Count occurs between the 17th and 23d of October, and anyone can participate by simply submitting a count through the Aussie Bird Count app (which you can learn about here: (  https://youtu.be/s4ziO5ebxnc ).

It’s time to count the birds who are counting on you!

Each Aussie Bird Count completed in Greater Shepparton contributes to vital data about our local wildlife and environment, and participants can enjoy learning in the process!

Aussie Bird Counts can be completed with friends, family or independently. You can count from your backyard, in a park, or at one of our many One Tree Per Child planting sites such as Boulevard Bush Reserve, Kalinga Park, Kialla Lakes, Tassicker Reserve, Lake Bartlett and Cussen Park.

We are excited to spread the word, so we have attached a promotional poster as well as a Birds in the Back Yard poster which identifies many of our common birds. If you are in a position to, we hope you will consider sharing these resources either physically or digitally across your networks.

Additionally, Birdlife Australia has a suite of teaching resources. This includes resources for Grades 4 – 6, colouring-in pages, and a code of bird watching ethics.
