Students considering Teaching and/or Nursing courses are encouraged to carefully check entry requirements and monitor messages in their VTAC account, to ensure that you complete any necessary tasks like CASPer https://takealtus.com/casper/ (by Nov 13 for a December round offer) or Nursing and Midwifery Declaration Form in a timely manner.
Students considering Visual Arts, Design, Performing Arts, Music courses are encouraged to carefully check requirements and monitor messages in their VTAC account, to ensure that you meet course application deadlines and attend to any selection tasks, folio requirements, forms for auditions, etc. in a timely manner.
Students applying for Private colleges (in VTAC these are associated with codes that end in a ‘2’) and TAFE institutes (in VTAC these are associated with codes that end in a ‘4’), while VTAC manage some, there are some where you will need to apply directly to some institutes. In this instance, each relevant private college and TAFE will set their own application dates, so it is worth checking the institution webpage for details relating to key dates and application process.
What do I need to remember to be successful in my first year of Uni or TAFE?
- I should attend orientation and transition activities – that way I can find out about support and advisory services available to me!
- I need to seek assistance to learn expectations of my lecturers – I will have to learn about tertiary essay writing, using sources, avoiding plagiarism, and managing my time, etc.
- I must remember to ask for help – no-one will necessarily be offering any!
- I will need to be an independent learner – my lecturers and tutors will not be reminding me about deadlines!
- I will need to take charge of my own learning – no-one will be checking up on me to see if I am keeping up with work or assignments!
- I will need to organise my time effectively – there are no bells to remind me where to be!
- I must remember that my classes may be much larger than what I have been used to at school – I will receive less individual attention!
- I must make friends – building new friendship groups will help me cope and help me stay motivated!
