2023 PREP TRANSITION SESSION
Last Friday, we ran our first transition session for our 2023 Prep students. The session ran extremely smoothly, and the students from many of our Kindergartens in the area were able to interact with each other, begin to get to know the spaces at Orchard Park and have an idea of what school life will be like for them next year.
Our Year 5/6 leaders were exceptional during this session and welcomed the kinder students to the school community with open arms. The Year 5/6 students walked all 2023 prep families from the administration building to the Prep Learning Community. Many Year 6 leaders also stayed during the transition session and supported the kinder kids settling in the learning community.
We couldn’t be more thrilled with how smoothly our first session ran and look forward to our second transition session next Friday.
BUDDY SESSION
During our Transition session, our Grade 3/4 students ran a buddy program with our current Preps. The 3/4s did a phenomenal job setting up an exciting PE program, where they engaged their buddies in a series of rotations of activities. The 3/4 students demonstrated strong leadership skills, were excellent role models by displaying all our school values and ensured that our Preps felt comfortable and enjoyed the session. Our Prep and 3/4 students will have their next buddy session on Friday 28th of October.
MYUNA FARM
On Tuesday 11th of October, our Prep students had their first excursion at Myuna Farm. The students participated in a farm show where they met some special animals that lived on the farm and were able to take part in milking the goats. They visited the animal nursery, where they learnt about respect towards animals, their life cycles and animals’ needs and behaviour. In the nursery, students were able to have hands-on contact with rabbits, guinea pigs, lambs, goats and piglets. Students also took a train ride down to the wetlands, where they learnt about unique flora and fauna and finally got to feed various animals in the paddocks.
We want to say a massive thank you to the many parents who volunteered their time on this day. Your support ensured that our preps were able to travel safely around the farm whilst also having loads of fun with an action-packed day.
ATHLETICS
On Wednesday 12th of October, we had four students head off to the next stage of Athletics. These students have made it through District Athletics, Division Athletics and participated in Regional Athletics on Wednesday. The competition was at a high level, and we couldn’t be prouder of these students for representing Orchard Park PS.
Congratulations to Wilson Tanielu for competing in Shot Put, Sadie Van Dam & Koryom Kuol for competing in hurdles and Taylor McAndrew for competing in Discus.
