LEARNING AND TEACHING - Vira Pirrotta

REPORTING @ St. Fidelis

The focus of our reporting is to communicate the learning and teaching at St. Fidelis Catholic Primary School so that students, teachers and parents can work together to improve student learning.

The Semester Two report will indicate your child’s progress in the 8 Learning Areas and capabilities of the Victorian Curriculum. The reports will show your child’s progress against the achievement standards.

Teachers will use accurate and objective judgements of assessment and evidence gathered to help them report against the achievement standards defined for each curriculum area taught.

Your child’s achievement will be displayed using a five-point scale and a dot indicating the year-level standard that your child has achieved.

This week, you will also receive the curriculum overview via SkooBag indicating the areas of focus for this term. Your child’s report will be available online from Friday, December 16.

More information about reporting will be available as the term progresses.

SPORT & PE - Michael Jennings

Kiara Massa (student from last year), made it into the U13 Hockey Victoria Development team this year and travelled to Hobart in the last school holidays to play against other states. She had an awesome time, mainly playing defence but also up forward. Very tiring though, 11 games over 7 days.

She also made it into the U&12 School Sports Victoria hockey team and travelled to Canberra in August.

BUONGIORNO!

Salve a tutti!

In this week’s newsletter, I would like to inform you all, what i bambini / ragazzi (the children), will be learning this term as well as to inform you about our GIORNATA ITALIANA (Italian Day) coming up towards the end of this term, see details below.

  • Foundation will be learning and identifying various farm animal names and related language structures in italiano, in a unit titled Cosa c’è nella fattoria? (What’s on the farm?), as well as listening to the narrative of La Gallinella Rossa, (The Little Red Hen). This will then lead into Natale and the Christmas story, which will also recap farm animals that were involved in the story.
  • Grade 1/2 will be learning about various weather conditions in a unit titled Che Tempo Fa? asking what the weather's like today and respond accordingly. They will also listen to a narrative titledLa Macchinetta Rossa, which introduces the children to travelling around Italy. This will tie in with an entertaining incursion that the children will be watching later in the term, related to visiting various places throughout Italy.
  • Grade 3/4 will firstly consolidate work on La mia Giornata (My daily routine). This is an extension from last term’s unit onChe ore sono? (telling the time), whereby the children will be able to apply some of their prior knowledge to describe at what time of the day, they do certain things, eg. Mi sveglio alle sette, (I wake up at 7).They will then learn about Italy in a unit titled, Italia Bella Here the children will learn about its location, regions, major cities and famous landmarks. This unit too will tie in  with the incursion that the children will be watching later in the term, related to visiting various places throughout Italy.
  • Grade 5/6 will be learning a unit about clothing and fashion, titled Cosa Indosso? (What am I wearing?) Here the ragazzi will be learning clothing vocabulary and various language structures, which will culminate in presenting a sfilata di moda (fashion parade) at the end of the term. Grade 5/6 will also be watching the incursion at the end of the term, which involves visiting Milano and a fashion parade. I’m sure the children will be quite excited about this!

Please note the SAVE THE DATE message below … Looking forward to seeing you there. Buona settimana.
