From the Year 3/4 Classrooms

We're Poets!!! (and sometimes we don't even know it)

Students in Team 3/4 are currently improving their skills in poetry writing. Some of the different poetry structures students have explored include:

As we explore each of these poetry styles, students undertake the following process:

Exploring different examples of that poetry style
Learning the structure of the poem
Brainstorming topics and words that will engage their audience when they write their poem
Drafting a poem using their planned topic and interesting words
Reflecting on the quality of the words used by focusing on their 'word choice' goal
Publishing their favourite drafted poem to add to their poetry book
