Kitchen News

Firstly, thanks to all the students, staff, parents and carers who have made me feel so welcome on joining the school as Kitchen Specialist.  My three passions in life are cooking, gardening and community so it looks like I’ve come to the right place!

Secondly, the students’ enthusiasm and skills in the kitchen have been most impressive.  Harvest from the garden has included pumpkins, sage, garlic, eggs, persimmons and parsley.  We were also able to do a swap with our neighbouring school, Altona Meadows Primary, where we received buckets of apples in return for our quinces.  The class focus has been knife skills and safety, measuring and mixing, baking and frying.  I intend to post the recipes we have worked on every fortnight for you to try at home.  Many of the kids would love the opportunity to show you what they have learned!

Lastly, I would encourage any parents/carers with their Working with Children Checks to please join us in kitchen class whenever possible as it the support of volunteers that significantly contributes to the ongoing success of the program.  We love having the extra set of hands and the students so appreciate having their loved ones visit and join in.
