Semester 2 Language Centre Students on City Excursion (Flinders Street Station)
On Monday 29th July we hosted a group of 35 Middle School Students and teachers from Xi’an, China.
Xi’an is famous for its Terracotta Warriors, an amazing treasure constructed to guard the first emperor of China in his afterlife. The warriors were buried along with the emperor and were only recently discovered in the 1970’s by farmers searching for water.
The students enjoyed a tour of the school, a taste of Brighton SC school life, a question/answer time and a morning tea.
My sincere thanks to the Year 12 students who welcomed and guided the students around the school. Our School Captains, Josh, Duke, Joanna and Mark along with Blare, Yusong, Ayden and Vivienne. The leadership that these students displayed was exemplary. Well done to you all.
Ms Apostolellis, Manager of our ELC, organised the students’ first excursion this week to the City Centre and Mr Agg was fortunate to attend in support and to get to know the students better. Meeting at school at 8am, we travelled by bus to North Brighton Station, train to Flinders Street and then onto Southern Cross Station. We then took a tram to Docklands Public Library, walked to Marvel Stadium and then onto the Flagstaff Gardens to learn about the first white settlement in Melbourne. From there we walked to Melbourne Central for lunch and then took the tram down Swanston Street to The National Gallery of Victoria NGV, to explore inside. Afterwards we walked across Princes Bridge and onto the Block Arcade before returning to Flinders Street Station for the Train and Bus ride back to school. The students were exceptionally well behaved and enjoyed the sights and sounds of our great city on a beautiful Melbourne Winter’s day.
Thanks go to Ms Apostolellis for a great day out in support of our new students’ orientation program.
