school life

big day out

On Tuesday the 3rd of December the grade 6s went to Adventure Park Geelong for their big day out. On this eventful day the grade 6s had an incredible amount of fun with rides such as the tornado, tsunami and Ferris wheel to list a few.

From so many rides to choose from there were a lot of favourites.

Lewis and many others chose a slower pace, “Lazy river was my favourite because it was ACTION PACKED!!!” Others, like Mirah preferred more action.”The Tsunami was awesome because it was so exciting!” Even though the wind pushed and pulled at many, students climbed the many stairs to the big rides over and over. Ari R and his friends voted for The Tornado,   It was a blast because we got stuck In it multiple times.” Bessie liked the new ride that is seven stories high and has a length of 172m, “The Tsunami was terrific, with a mixture of length and being scary”

Teachers and students wished the sun stayed out a bit more often but even the icy wind and occasional rain could not stop them all from having a great day out together.

When they came back to school, parents had prepared a sausage sizzle. A perfect end to a fun day.

celebrations ABAH

This term we have been really enjoying learning about the different ways people celebrate cultural events around the world.  Starting with sharing our own family and cultural traditions in class, our Inquiry has been branched out into a global odyssey.   Students have investigated some of the world’s most iconic cultural events such as Halloween, the Day of the Dead, Holi Festival, Eid and Christmas. Junior students have also enjoyed learning about the symbolism of new years’ celebrations around the world, investigating Chinese New Year traditions together with Thailand’s Songkran festival of water.

Students in ABAH relished the chance to learn about Songkran (which officially takes place in April to mark the beginning of the Thai new year), culminating in a replica water fight at Brunswick North West Primary School!  All Junior A classes took part in the Songkran festivities in the Woodlands on what was a gorgeous day of sunshine!  Not even teachers were safe!

In ABAH preparations began in earnest.  We agreed that for the water fight to be sustainable we could not use plastic balloons.  Instead, we all had a lot of fun making and designing containers and origami balloons out of scrap paper.

Before the water fight could start we held a special ‘blessing’ ceremony inside the classroom echoing the experience of students in Thailand who bless their teachers and each makes a wish for a prosperous and happy year ahead before the water fight can commence.  Thanks so much to Sam Everton and Chot and Jasmine Walford for sharing their rich knowledge of this tradition with the teachers and students in ABAH and JR.

After that the Junior A’s assembled in the Woodlands for a very fun water fight.  We all had so much fun!  Some highlights:

“Tipping water on the teacher’s head.”  Mila. Grade 1

“My favourite part was getting wet at school with my friends.”  Caoimhe, Grade 1

“Getting wet.”  Oli, Grade 1

“Getting to dress up and teach people about Songkran.”  Jasmine, Grade 2

passion project

Thank you for donating to my Passion Project which was collecting food and toiletries for Foodbank Victoria. We as a school donated 85kg of food and toiletries and the staff at Foodbank were very grateful and said this will make 12 hampers for families in need.

Thanks again.
