Staff Profiles

Corey Atkinson - Mooroopna Campus

My name is Corey Atkinson and I’m a proud Bangerang/Yorta Yorta man. I was born and raised in Shepparton.  I have been working in education for the past four years, going on to my fifth.  I’m very passionate about indigenous education and have held a variety of different roles over my career, working in remote community’s, boarding schools and indigenous organisations.   Corey Atkinson

Tahlia Cooper - Wanganui Campus

Hi I’m Tahlia cooper, a little about me. I am a Yorta Yorta, Gunai kurnai & Wiradjuri women. I graduated high school in 2018 at Wanganui Secondary College and the following year I started a role at Shepparton High School as a trainee working closely with the Koorie students. This year I will again be working with the Koorie students.  I will be supporting them inside and outside the classroom and working closely with the other two Koorie Education Staff at the other campuses to get the best outcome for our indigenous students.

Valerie Atkinson - McGuire Campus

I am a proud Yorta Yorta Wiradjuri woman. I worked for Save The Children for two and a half years delivering an educational program to Koorie Families, then went on to study a Cert IV in Community Services through ASHE, both of which I loved so much, being within my community and feeling culturally safe. I wanted to bring some of what I’ve learnt and loved about those experiences into Greater Shepparton Secondary College for the students, their families and everyone involved within the school.

When I found out about the job as Koorie Educator at Greater Shepparton Secondary College it felt like a perfect fit for me. I have always wanted to work with youth. I believe they are our future leaders and education is so important, it is the key that will open many doors of future opportunities for our kids.

At the McGuire Campus I sit within the Wellbeing Team, I have a little office space set up with a couch and many of the students visit me during recess and lunch time. It is a good opportunity for them to sit, have a bit of an informal chat and catch up in a space they feel is comfortable.

While in remote learning I have been connecting with the students via Teams Chat and parents via Phone or Email, if you haven’t heard from me and would like to have a chat I am available by email and you can find me on Compass.  Valerie Atkinson
