Remote Learning continues

Hello everyone, as we continue with remote learning for the remainder of Term 3, can I take this opportunity to acknowledge the Students, Parents/Guardians and Staff efforts to engage with the educational opportunities created. It has not been easy and we all have times when we struggle, but I have seen such resilience and commitment throughout the school community in working through these challenges together, which really is inspirational. Hopefully we will know more this Sunday about the road map out of these Covid- 19 restrictions and what this will mean for a return to onsite learning across all our campuses in Term 4.

Onsite supervision

We continue to offer onsite supervision at each of our campuses for our essential workers’ children and vulnerable students. Please refer to the GSSC website for further information. Note that in the remaining weeks of term there will be no onsite supervision on the 11th September (Staff PD Day) and the 18th September (Parent/Student/Teacher conferences) at all campuses.

No onsite supervision for Parent / Student/ Teacher interviews:

McGuire Campus on 15th September

Mooroopna Campus on 16th September

Wanganui Campus on 17th September

Welcome Jon Neall

(Wanganui Campus Principal)

We welcomed Jon last week when he travelled from his previous school in Edenhope. Jon is due to start at the commencement of Term 4 as Wanganui Campus Principal.

Ken Murray will commence his leave over Term 4 and we wish him all the best as he changes pace and is able to spend more time for himself and with his family. Acknowledging Ken’s contributions throughout his career is in the planning and the hope is to facilitate this together (not online) towards the end of the year.

Subject selections & Transition information

Planning has been occurring across all campuses for 2021. Subject selections at all transition points have taken place and thank you to all the teams of people who have aided in this process, which has been so different to anything we have done before. Thank you to the families, the students and staff who have worked tirelessly to make all this happen in a virtual environment. Well done!

Welcome our new cohort of Year 7 (2021)

What a year it has been? I can’t believe we are already preparing for our new cohort of Year 7 students from Grade 6. Thank you to Anna Sloane & her Grade 6 into Year 7 Transition Team for communicating with all the feeder Primary schools, our Grade 6 families and getting underway for a successful preparation of Grade 6 students into Greater Shepparton Secondary College.

Wear it Purple Day

On Friday 28th August Greater Shepparton Secondary College recognised ‘Wear It Purple Day”.  This marked the 10th Anniversary of 'Wear it Purple Day', a significant day that recognises the LGTBIQA+ community and celebrating diversity.  We had many staff that dressed in purple on the day and stories and videos from current and past students were shared.

Computer roll out

The IT team have been rolling out updated computers to students across our College. This is to ensure our students have the required tools to engage with all aspects of remote learning. This roll out will continue for the remainder of the term. Students in Years 7 & 8 are invited to collect their updated computer, from the McGuire Campus front building (E Wing).

New site building development

It has been uplifting to pass by the new Greater Shepparton Secondary College (Hawdon street site) and see Neighbourhood 3 and other buildings rising so quickly. (See photos this edition).

Parent/Carer/Student Teacher Conferences

These will occur during the last week of Term 3 via TEAMS. Families will be able to book sessions to discuss their child’s progress from Tuesday 8th September through Compass.

Each session will be for a maximum of 5 minutes. We expect the student and a Parent/Carer to be available in these interviews.

To assist families who have children across multiple campuses we have arranged these blocks of interview times:

McGuire Campus

Tuesday 15th September 12 -3pm & 4–7pm

Mooroopna Campus

 Wednesday 16th September 12-3pm & 4–7pm

Wanganui Campus
