A massive congratulations to all the students who were able join in the many activities on offer on line through Extended School Day.
This is one of the most enjoyable school experiences our students have at Northern Bay because they select their areas of interest over any of four days and then can influence the sessions that I create each term. Real student Voice in action!
THE VICTORIAN STATE SCHOOL SPECTACULAR
Each year a group of students works over term 2 and 3 to get ready to perform in the annual Victorian State School Spectacular at the Melbourne Arena in Melbourne. This Saturday would have seen our 9th year participating in the amazing event, however due to COVID-19, this years event has changed from a performance in front of a 10000 person audience, to a virtual show which will be telecast later this year. Over the last 20 weeks our State School participants have been rehearsing online never knowing if their dream of a live performance would occur. Sadly the outcome was live recording of their singing and dancing.
This has taken place over the past few weeks and I am sure the end result will breath taking for the online audience.
Mrs Bowden and I would like to thank all the students and their families for their commitment and willingness to participate in this very unique performance. A special thank you and farewell to three of our year 12 students, Caitlin, Clarissa and Kaitlyn for their many years of fun and commitment to the Victorian State School Spectacular.
They have been outstanding positive role models to everyone over their senior years.
The items below are a video clip of Zaiden singing, music in his headphones and doing a brilliant job of keeping in time and keeping in tune - and what about the long note. The piece of music was ode to joy which we all know as Joyful Joyful - but the students had to learn the music and sing in German!
The still photo is what happened during filming. Student sitting singing and the adult in close (masked) proximity with their camera.
The Performing Arts team have put out a family challenge that will end on Thursday 17 September. Get the family together, get creative and get your entries in.
RECREATING A MOVIE SCENE: This week’s challenge is to create a scene from a movie. Find the movie that you love and as a family act it out. Have someone record it and send it to amanda.baulch@nbc.vic.edu.au
Include your pets, act it out with toys, get creative and have fun!
Next week students will start to learn the Music Count Us In song. Music Count Us In is an annual music event where students, staff and the community right across Australia sing the same song, on the same day at the same time – it is the song that stops the nation. Every year the students at Northern Bay join together with the rest of Australia to celebrate, however with covid-19 implicating this event it will look a little different in 2020. This year will be a very a special year, and students will be learning the song using Auslan. We look forward to sharing more about this in term 4. This year’s song “You won’t bring us down” will be celebrated on Thursday 5 November. With this youtube link - you can get all the families at home to sing too!
