This term in the P-2 Learning Community, we have become scientists and have been exploring science around us.
In Prep we have been learning about biological science – animals and living things. While in Years 1 and 2 we have explored physical science – the movement of things.
During our science focus we have learnt about the following:
1/ Animals and living things
That living things have a variety of external features and live in different places where their basic needs of food, water and shelter are met. Living things grow, change and have offspring.
2/ The movement of things.
The way objects move depends on factors such as size and shape. Push or pull affects how an object moves and changes shape and that light and sound are made by different sources
3/ Science Inquiry Skills and Vocabulary
As scientists we have learnt lots of new inquiry skills that we used during our science lessons and experiments. These skills will be used again in Term 4 when we continue our science focus. The following skills and vocabulary are also important skills we can use in other areas of our learning such as reading, maths and investigations. They are lifelong skills that we can apply to all our schooling as well as our learning beyond school.
Online Incursions
We have also had an opportunity to be part of online incursions to deepen our knowledge and practice what we have learnt by conducting experiments.
A message to prep families 2021.
As Mr Diamond discusses in his page we have a short video explaining what we are doing at this stage to make sure wo know how many student we need to plan for in the transition to start school 2021.
Prep – Wildlife Xposure – Native Animals
Years 1/2 – Mad About Science – On the Move – Forces in Action
We have learnt a lot this term and look forward to more experiments and investigations next term when we investigate earth and space and chemical science.
