Pastoral Care News

This week as we prepare to say goodbye to the “Class of 2020” for our new graduates it is a time filled with excitement, trepidation and perhaps uncertainty about whatever their future holds and where their journey in life may take them. I hope that whatever their future holds, they will never forget to continue to be kind to both others, as well as themselves.

This week the wave of kindness continues to flow throughout our school and is certainly evident in the activities which are being conducted by the C.A.T.

On Wednesday morning, and in complying with COVID restrictions the Year 10 C.A.T Leaders presented on behalf of the entire MCC community, 40 “I CARE” kits to representatives from Linking Communities Network (Youth Refuge and Women’s Refuge). The service was overwhelmed with the generosity of the school and expressed their appreciation and gratitude. This year has seen a significant rise in homelessness, displacement and domestic violence so they kits will hopefully provide a symbol of hope to those currently experiencing a personal crisis or misfortune.

In addition to the full kits we were able to provide additional boxes of surplus goods which will again be distributed by the service as per need.

The informal presentation concluded with our C.A.T President Jayden actually presenting the service with a “Certificate of Appreciation” from MCC thanking them for the work that they do within community. Services such as LCN are vital and more often than not they are unsung heroes and do not receive the recognition they deserve.

At lunchtime the wave of kindness took a new direction with the official launch of our “”MEGA RAFFLE”. Earlier this month one of our MCC families were involved in an accident which resulted in the tragic death of their father. The family have additional stress factors impacting on their life at the moment given Visa situations etc. so by following the teachings of St Vincent de Paul we have taken a SEE, THINK and DO approach to best support the immediate needs of the family and hopefully reduce some of the stress factors they are currently experiencing. We had decided to hold a raffle and although this was mentioned only briefly in our previous newsletter article the response has been phenomenal from not only the MCC community but the generous Griffith community as well. As a direct result we have over 35 prizes that have been donated and we are still receiving generous offers.

The team will continue to sell tickets each lunch time until Friday October. I have small booklets (25 tickets) or 100 if anyone is interested in selling on behalf of the school/activity so please contact me for further information.

Tickets are $2 each OR 3 for $5

We are currently trying to organise electronic access to purchase tickets however if necessary money can be left at our front office and I will manually write out tickets in the interim.

We could not hold such an activity without the generosity of families, businesses, individuals and staff so on behalf of the C.A.T and the family I would like to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANKYOU!

In addition, thank you to~ Colleen”s Cookies and Cake Creations, The Marcon family, Hellen Panerello, Yardley Family, student Winter Rosengreen and our wonderful MCC staff.
