Homework Club

These comments are from our students of the Pacific and CLAD Community of how Homework Club has helped them achieve their school goals with their assessments and homework. The homework club had commenced in term 3, as there were COVID restrictions we had to abide by, but also the students well being was important, and the Learning Support Coordinator Laura Vardenga and Sanita Lole CLO worked in collaboration to get the Home work club up in running, as we had many parents and students eager to get started, as it was beneficial for their children to utilise MCC home work club to keep up with their studies, and to get the assistance they required while being at the homework club from 3:30 PM until 4:30 PM every Thursday's.

HOMEWORK CLUB COMMENCES TERM 3 2020 DURING COVID RESTRICTIONS

During my time at Marian Catholic College, I have had the great opportunity to develop my abilities through the weekly Homework Club offered. At the beginning, when I was in year 7, there were less than 10 students attending and it was throughout my highschool journey that I saw it grow into a very supportive community. Every week, more and more students came in. They were eager to focus on their studies in a friendly environment with their peers and there was always the wave of students that came during the final weeks of each term when assessment due dates and deadlines were approaching.

Personally, I have found the Homework Club to be extremely beneficial. The staff are incredible and always ensure that students remain on task (and kindly motivate us with the help of lollies). Helping students in junior years is also a very rewarding experience and, for this reason, I encourage attendance from senior students!

Thursday afternoons have definitely been a highlight during my experience at the college and I hope it continues to develop and assist students in the future as it has done for me. My gratitude goes towards the staff who volunteer their time every week to help students reach their full potential.

I moved to Marian Catholic College in year 9, with little to no knowledge of the environment of the college and the support services they offered. During this time, I was a very introverted individual with no friends besides the family members who were in different year groups than me. In addition, I was not the brightest student and was unaware of how to build my knowledge and skills. I was later invited to Homework Club in year 9 Mrs. Lole who informed me of the program and how she could help develop my abilities. During this time, there were approximately 15 other students who attended, which eventually helped me develop my social skills and gave me a sense of what it feels like to be a part of a small community after school hours.

This program has been extremely helpful in multiple ways. It was very beneficial to have other students around me that share the same goals and initiatives in growing. I am forever grateful for the staff who willingly sacrifice their time to help myself and other students with assessments and homework.

Although it was very difficult to motivate myself to attend the homework club, I am happy that I continued to make the decision to attend and seek the support that they offered in order to reach my full potential. I am sincerely thankful for the Homework Club and I strongly encourage students who have the desire to fortify their strengths and weaknesses to attend and make the most of the Homework Club.

I started homework club since the beginning of Term 2 and homework club has helped me finish all my homework on time. These teachers in homework are pretty useful because they help me when I’m stuck with a question, and they help me to understand the questions. My favourite part of the homework club is sitting next to my friends and staying focused on work. And that's why I like homework club.

I started homework club at the beginning of term 2 and it was awesome because I got help from a lot of teachers which helped me alot with my assignment and I got all of them done and handed them in,in time. Homework club is a great place to get extra assistance on work.

How has the homework club been useful for you?

The homework club has been really helpful for me because I have gotten a lot of help from teachers helping me with assignments and so much more and it has given me a better understanding of my work.

Are the teachers useful?

How do they help? Yes the teachers are so useful and helpful. The teachers are so polite and nice and they make a very good understanding of what you have to do and that is super helpful.

What is your favourite part of the homework club? My favourite part is how everyone is happy and having a laugh and how everyone gets a lolie at the end it really makes it a good ending of the day.
