Cadets

Report from CDTSGT Indiana Van Diesen, Adjutant, MCACU

Whilst COVID-19 restrictions have brought the fortnightly cadet program to a brief halt, the senior leaders have been working hard on preparing to conduct an online leadership development program. Whilst we are proud of the leaders among us, this program has been developed to maximise leadership skills within our cadet unit, whilst having a social aspect present in order for us to stay interconnected in the hard time of remote learning. This program is an attempt for us, as senior leaders, to provide the utmost support for our leaders of tomorrow, both within cadets and within our daily lives. This program is planned to run during period five of day ten through Google Classroom and a video call platform where leaders will complete fortnightly activities whilst being guided by RSM Kent, CSM Jellie and myself.

Currently, we have four candidates who are participating on the online Cadet Under Officer/Warrant Officer leadership course. This course, as well as the Senior Leaders’ Course, occurs for three consecutive Saturdays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. We are approaching the final day of training this weekend. These candidates are working with cadets from all around Victoria to develop their personal leadership skills, as well as maintaining knowledge to apply to our unit among recommencement of face-to-face training. Training involves a case study of a leader whom the candidates admire and how they can apply the leader’s characteristics to a cadet environment. RSM Kent and I would like to congratulate everyone on the dedication they are applying to this course as we are both very proud of all of the candidates.

Report from CUO Demi Taylor, Instructor, Senior Leaders Course,

Currently, within the Victorian Cadet Brigade, we are conducting the Promotional Courses Camp 1/20 online through the platform of ‘Zoom’.  Previously, the JLC (Juniors Leader Course) was conducted, qualifying our Cadets of The Monivae College Army Cadet Unit to be promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal or Corporal. Throughout the last two weekends, we are now conducting the SLC, (Senior Leaders Course), this is qualifying our Cadets to be promoted to Sergeant. Monivae is fortunate enough to have seven candidates attending this course, in the hope for each of them to be promoted in the future. Although, I am seeing a different perspective of the course, as a CUO (Cadet Under Officer) I am lucky enough to be an instructor on this course, assisting and guiding the cadets by teaching them what they each need to know as future Senior Leaders within our cadet unit. A big thank you to the Course Commander 32BN CUO Alyssa Neeson, and the continuous time and hard work she has put into the course to ensure the smooth running for the candidates.
