Year 12 Special Provisions

Available in various languages

What is Special Provision?

Special Provision is available for VCE or VCAL students affected by illness, disability or other factors. Where approved, Special Provision provides students with an opportunity to participate in and demonstrate what they have learned.

Special Provision is available for:

  • classroom learning
  • school-based assessments
  • VCE external assessments.

Students may be able to get Special Provision if they are affected by:

  • an acute or chronic illness
  • personal or family issues
  • an impairment or disability, including a learning disorder.

Students whose learning or assessment has been severely affected by hardship which has resulted in lengthy absences from school may also be able to get special provision.

What happens if you are granted Special Provision? Special Provision can take a number of forms including:

  • completing classroom activities and assessment tasks at a different time
  • being given extra time to complete work or assessment tasks
  • completing a different assessment task or a different type of task
  • using technology, aide or other special arrangements to assist with classroom learning or assessment tasks
  • deriving outcomes or scores from other assessments or work completed by the student.

How do you apply for Special Provision?

If you think you may be eligible for Special Provision then you need to contact your school principal or VCE Co-ordinator. Your school has responsibility for determining if you are eligible for Special Provision for classroom learning and/or school-based assessments.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) has responsibility for determining if you are eligible for Special Examination Arrangements for VCE external assessments including the General Achievement Test (GAT).

Schools are responsible for submitting applications for Special Examination Arrangements on behalf of their students.
