CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in writing, we are learning to write an information text. 


VOCABULARY

Information text: a text that shares facts about the topic.

Subheadings: tells us what the paragraph is about.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Discuss with your child an animal that they know lots about. Use the structure to help write your information text about the animal. 

 

Make sure to use subheadings, to tell the reader what they are going to be finding information out about. 

 

For example: 

Koalas 

 

Koalas are native Australian animals. They are known as marsupials just like Kangaroos. 

 

Diet: 

Koalas eat eucalyptus leaves 

 

Habitat: 

Koalas live in the bush and can be found in trees 

 

Behaviour: 

Koalas sleep up to 20 hours a day 

 

Conclusion: 

Koalas are fascinating marsupials.
