Junior School

Welcome to Term Three. I hope you had the opportunity to relax over the holiday break and enjoy some quality family time. We commence Term Three in a positive and purposeful frame of mind, after an excellent Semester One. Term Three is traditionally a busy and exciting nine weeks, punctuated with a plethora of focus weeks and co-curricular offerings. We look forward to an engaging start to the second half of 2023.

My recreational reading over the holiday break included The Runner by Markus Torgeby. Markus was an accomplished young athlete in Sweden. Several factors pushed him to make the unusual decision to head into the Swedish wilderness and live alone through autumn, winter, and spring, over a period of four years. He camped out and survived in a reindeer skin tent with a small stove. Running formed an important part of each day. Three quotes from the book that resonated with me.

  • “I have no superpowers but when I want something, I will give it 100% - that is my strength.”
  • “Switch off your phone. Take a walk in the nearest forest without music in your ears, only in your head. When you get home, light a candle. You think different thoughts in front of a living flame.”
  • “We have reached a point in society where all our needs are constantly satisfied. We need to learn to do without and to realise that more isn’t better - to do without in order to feel more.”

STAFFING

After six years of loyal service to the Early Learning Centre, Ms Katrina Bull has resigned from her position at College. Katrina worked with our ELC 3 and ELC 4 students as an Early Learning Assistant. We thank Katrina for her time and wish her well in future endeavours.

ICAS RESULTS

We have received our results for the ICAS REACH English, Spelling and Mathematics tests sat by Year 2 - 6 students in the second half of Term Two. Over the next few weeks, we will present certificates at our Tuesday afternoon Assembly to students who achieved Commendable and Outstanding results.

NAPLAN RESULTS

The 2023 NAPLAN results are due to be released this week. Year 3 and 5 parents will shortly receive the results, together with a letter from class teachers, indicating if the individual student’s results in the five NAPLAN tests align with class-based assessments.

The following link is a short three-minute video that guides parents in how to read the 2023 NAPLAN reports.
