ICT News!

This week’s ICT news we firstly say goodbye and acknowledge Kris our Source Central Onsite Technician. Kris has decided to leave us for a wonderful opportunity working as an Account Technician Manager at a local company in Airport West. We wish Kris all the best in his new endeavors and hope that he remembers us always at SoGS!

Our students at SoGS are a very blessed and lucky group of students when it comes to accessing technology. Being a 1:1 device school is key to developing some of the following skills necessary for our students to continue to be lifelong tech learners:

In today's digital age, it is crucial for students to be digitally literate. ICT education helps young learners understand how to use computers, smartphones, and other digital devices effectively and safely. They learn basic skills like typing, using software applications, navigating the internet, and understanding online safety and security. As technology continues to advance rapidly, it's becoming increasingly important for students to be prepared for the future job market. Introducing ICT concepts early on helps students develop the foundational knowledge and skills they may need in various careers later in life.

ICT education often involves learning to use various digital tools to solve problems, analyze data, and think critically. These skills are transferable to other subjects and real-life situations, enhancing students' overall cognitive abilities. ICT can be a powerful medium for creative expression. By learning how to use digital tools for art, multimedia projects, and presentations, students can explore their creativity and communicate their ideas effectively.Access to information and resources: ICT provides access to a vast amount of information and educational resources. By learning how to navigate the internet and use educational software, students can access a wealth of knowledge beyond the traditional classroom setting. It also fosters collaboration and communication skills as students learn to work together on group projects, share ideas, and communicate effectively through digital platforms.Global awareness: Through ICT, students can connect with peers from different parts of the world, gaining exposure to diverse cultures and perspectives. This global awareness helps promote tolerance, understanding, and empathy.Lastly, the inclusion of technology in our classrooms also includes educating students about responsible and ethical technology use. This includes teaching them about digital citizenship, online etiquette, and the potential consequences of their actions in the digital world.

Occupational Health and Safety

On Monday 31st July, Dynamiq Emergency Management were on site to help us conduct our second onsite emergency drill with our staff and students. It is important to be prepared for all types of situations and we thank Dynamiq for assisting us and helping us keep all staff, students and families safe at SoGS.

A reminder again that there is NO RIGHT TURN from 3.15pm to 3.45pm from the school gates. When turning right it congests traffic flow within the school and does not allow traffic to move at kiss n drop. We have witnessed many drivers attempting to do this and we kindly ask that you please be considerate when leaving the school.

We also kindly ask that when dropping off or picking up your child/ren from Burnleigh Drive you do not perform a U TURN in the driveways directly opposite the Back Gate. This also affects the traffic flow of Burnleigh Drive and creates a dangerous hazard for those using Burnleigh Drive safely.

Please continue to be vigilant and report any slippery areas or tripping hazards on the playground to fpiccione@sogsgpark.catholic.edu.au.

Physical Education / School Sports!

So many exciting announcements as we head into a Big Second Half of the Year in PE!

Firstly, on Friday 18th August, the SoGS Athletics Team will be heading to the Meadowglen Athletics Track to represent SOGS at the Broadmeadows District Athletics Competition. 51 students from Grade 4, 5 and 6 are currently training each and every lunchtime and recess to prepare for their events. We look forward to hearing how our mini athlete stars fair in this competition.

All our students are currently working on developing their Athletic Skills through the Physical Education Curriculum. From Discus, Shot put, Long and Triple Jump, Relay Racing and Long Distance running, all students have an opportunity to work on the skills required to undertake these challenging activities.

Congratulations to Allegra V in Grade 4 (Future Matilda) who went through a very tough and grueling trial process in an attempt to make State Selection in Football (Soccer). Allegra made it all the way to the final selection trial. Over 200 girls tried for a position and Allegra made it to the top 40 girls in the State! Only 24 girls were selected and will go on for further training. Again we congratulate Allegra on an outstanding achievement and we know we will see her one day wearing the Green and Gold of Australia!

If your child has achieved any sporting accolades (e.g. Taekwondo Black Belt, Soccer Championship, Netball Best and Fairest Awards etc) please email them to me on so that we can celebrate them as a community!
