ICT News!

This week’s ICT news we welcome James from Source Central. James will be our onsite technician and has a wonderful amount of experience in the field of technology educational support that will no doubt become a wonderful part of the SoGS family. Welcome James!

In a constant and ever changing world we are forever exposed to an array of varying technology. From IPADS to game consoles, television and chromebooks, we must continue to embrace technology but also remind our children that there is a safe and harmonious way to live together. Here are five tips to help you achieve this balance and harmony:

1.Set Clear Goals and Priorities:

Define your learning goals and prioritize them. Determine what subjects or skills you want to focus on and allocate specific time slots for learning activities. This will help you stay organized and prevent aimless scrolling or excessive screen time.

2.Create a Structured Schedule:

Establish a structured daily schedule that includes dedicated time blocks for learning, physical activities, social interactions, and relaxation. By allocating specific time for each activity, you can ensure that screen time doesn't dominate your day and that you're engaging in a variety of meaningful activities.

3.Use Technology Mindfully:

When using screens for learning, be mindful of the content and tools you're using. Choose high-quality educational resources and platforms that align with your goals. Avoid distractions like social media, unrelated videos, or games during your designated learning time.

4.Incorporate Offline Activities:

Balance screen time with offline activities that promote hands-on learning and engagement. These activities can include reading physical books, practicing a musical instrument, engaging in arts and crafts, cooking, or participating in outdoor activities. This variety can stimulate different parts of your brain and provide a more holistic learning experience.

5.Practice the 20-20-20 Rule:

To reduce eye strain and screen fatigue, adopt the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and focus on something at least 20 feet away. This helps alleviate the negative effects of prolonged screen exposure and encourages you to step away from screens regularly.

Remember that the key is to strike a balance that works for your individual needs and goals. Regularly evaluate your screen time and learning habits to ensure that you're making progress while maintaining your overall well-being.

Occupational Health and Safety

This week we welcome Bruno Fornaro. Bruno will be our onsite Maintenance and Gardener. We look forward to Bruno working together with myself and the staff to help keep us all safe and continue to help make our grounds look as beautiful as they can be!

AGAIN Please take note: that there is NO RIGHT TURN from 3.15pm to 3.45pm from the school gates. When turning right it congests traffic flow within the school and does not allow traffic to move at kiss n drop. We have witnessed many drivers attempting to do this and we kindly ask that you please be considerate when leaving the school.

We also kindly ask that when dropping off or picking up your child/ren from Burnleigh Drive you DO NOT perform a U TURN in the driveways directly opposite the Back Gate. Please also remember that Burnleigh Drive is a Public Road and after dropping off your children, carefully and thoughtfully merge back onto the road as safely as possible. This also affects the traffic flow of Burnleigh Drive and creates a dangerous hazard for those using this road,  Drive safely!

Please continue to be vigilant and report any slippery areas or tripping hazards on the playground to  Mr P.

Physical Education / School Sports!

Firstly we must congratulate the mighty Matildas! What an inspiring and awesome team effort to eliminate the powerful French National Team! The amount of National Pride and excitement that was occurring in our household was so inspiring! Let’s hope that Wednesday night we can progress to the final!

Are you ready to kick off some excitement and fun? Our local soccer clubs are calling out to all soccer enthusiasts, young and old, to join us in a journey filled with teamwork, camaraderie, and the thrill of the beautiful game!

We are blessed in our local area that we have many local soccer clubs. Soccer is more than just a sport – it's a way of life that brings people together, fosters friendships, and encourages personal growth.

Here's why you should consider your child/ren joining a local soccer club!

Inclusive Atmosphere: Our club welcomes individuals of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. We value diversity and believe that every player contributes to the richness of our soccer community.

Team Spirit: Soccer is about teamwork, communication, and collaboration. Joining our club means becoming part of a team that supports and encourages one another on and off the field.

Physical Fitness: Soccer is a fantastic way to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Enjoy the benefits of regular exercise while having a blast with fellow players.

Friendships: Many lifelong friendships are formed on the soccer field. It is not just about playing soccer – it's about building lasting connections with people who share your passion.

Community Engagement: Club events, tournaments, and volunteer opportunities give you a chance to make a positive impact where you live.

We wish our School of the Good Shepherd Athletics Team good luck as they head to Meadowglen Athletics Track this Friday 18th August to compete in the Broadmeadows Athletics District Carnival. Each team and competitor has trained throughout their lunchtime and recess and we are looking forward to a wonderful and eventful day of competition this Friday.

In Physical Education, our students are continuing to work on developing their Athletic Skills through the Physical Education Curriculum. From Discus, Shot put, Long and Triple Jump, Relay Racing and Long Distance running, all students have an opportunity to work on the skills required to undertake these challenging activities. Students are also working on their strength and conditioning through our lessons to build themselves into the best possible versions of themselves they can be!

If your child has achieved any sporting accolades (e.g. Taekwondo Black Belt, Soccer Championship, Netball Best and Fairest Awards etc) please email them to me so that we can celebrate them as a community!

Thanks F
