Saturday the 12th of August was National Youth Day. The theme for 2023 was Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World
Today, the world is embarking on a green transition. The shift towards an environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly world is critical not only for responding to the global climate crisis but also for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A successful transition towards a greener world will depend on the development of green skills in the population. Green skills are “knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society”.
We at School of the Good Shepherd are actively on our way to a green transition and are guided by Melanie Sanderson who is our sustainability leader at the school.
While green skills are relevant for people of all ages, it has heightened importance for younger people, who can contribute to the green transition for a longer period of time.
Each and every one of the students are embarking on this journey and have made and continue to make small changes every day so that they are upskilled in how to live in a diverse sustainable world. For this, we thank the Youth of today for they are the future!
Ask your children to tell you about the small changes they have made that will make a big impact on their future. Allow the youths of today to upskill you in what changes you can make in your home or at your place of work.
Parent Support Group Meetings
This week will mark our second week of PSG meetings. Thank you to the families who were invited, have made appointments and are attending the meetings. They are always a great way to check in on the progress of goals set and discuss the best options moving forward.
Please note that when a meeting is held over the phone, two copies of the meeting minutes will be sent home, one for your records and one for you to sign and return back to school. It is extremely important that the minutes are signed and returned back to the classroom teacher or the office as soon as possible. It is a legal obligation that the consultation and collaboration held in the PSG meetings are recorded, signed and kept in our records. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated as it is extremely important.
Please note that if you have been invited to attend a PSG meeting, you are not required to attend a Parent Teacher Interview.
Thank you for your continued support.
