Letter to Family and Friends

Dear Pilgrim Families,

The Pilgrim Student Attributes are the values and skills we endeavour to develop in our students over their time at Pilgrim School. This short article will unpack the attribute: Be effective communicators and collaborators.

Working with others and being effective communicators are important skills for students to develop. Sharing our learning and communicating with others often solidifies our own understanding. Being able to effectively communicate and collaborate with others is vital in our society and enhances employment opportunities. Our society functions best where there is acceptance of others and empathy shown.

Our definition of Be effective communicators and collaborators is: collaborative learning will develop our communication, participation and individual strengths as we commit to group tasks and develop an understanding of the ideas and views of others. This attribute is closely connected to the school values Explore and Flourish.

To develop this attribute in our students, teachers aim to:

  • Provide ample opportunities for students to work with many other students.
  • Create an engaging curriculum where all students are encouraged to participate.
  • Value every students’ unique gifts given by God.
  • Teach students how to work effectively in small groups.

Some of the verses in the Bible that closely link to this Attribute are:

God has chosen you and made you His holy people.  He loves you.  So always do these things: show mercy to others; be kind, humble, gentle and patient.

Colossians 3:12

All of you together are the body of Christ. Each one of you is a part of that body.

1 Corinthians 12:27

Throughout the children’s journey at Pilgrim School, our students are encouraged to:

  • Work with others respectfully to make collaborative decisions.
  • Develop their confidence in challenging situations.
  • Listen and share their ideas during discussions and value the opinion of others.
  • Take on different roles in groups.

Our Year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to communicate their learning with their families this week through Student Led Conferences. Later in the term, the Foundation to Year 4 students will also communicate their learning through Learning Journeys

Blessings,
