Victorian Volleyball Schools Cup
The Victorian Volleyball Schools Cup is a highlight of our school's sporting calendar, bringing together students from several year levels to display their skills on the court. With determination and dedication, our teams have been practicing rigorously, honing their techniques, and strategizing to be at their best during the tournament.
Our Year 8 teams have been been magnificent, with the Div 2 team claiming Gold on Wednesday, while Year 8 Honours earned Silver, and Div 1 secured Bronze. Our Open Honours and Year 12 Div 1 teams fought valiantly too, earning their place on the podium with impressive Bronze medals.
Today sees the Year 10 Honours, Year 7 Div 1 and two Year 9 teams (Honours and Div 1) in Gold Matches, as they went undefeated throughout their campaigns, while the Year 7 Div 2 team has secured Bronze.
Beyond the competition, the Volleyball provides an opportunity for our school community to come together, cheer on our teams, and celebrate the spirit of friendly rivalry. Students, teachers, and parents alike unite to support our players and share in the excitement of the matches. May this event inspire our students to embrace the values of teamwork, resilience, and fair play that extend far beyond the court and into all aspects of their lives.
Languages Week
Languages Week is a fantastic opportunity to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. Throughout the week, students were encouraged to explore different languages through fun games, interactive workshops, and language exchange sessions. They discovered the beauty of various languages, traditions, and customs, promoting a sense of unity and respect within our school community.
This week we celebrated the rich tapestry of languages and cultures during our much-awaited Languages Week! From July 24 to July 28, our school came alive with vibrant activities and engaging events that highlighted the diversity of languages spoken by our students and their families. Thank you to the Languages Faculty and parents and families who participated in the festivities, sharing their native languages and cultural heritage with our students.
Freaky Friday, the Musical
Thank you to Avila College for hosting the 2023 musical at The Alex Theatre, Monash University. The cast took us into a world of enchanting chaos and laughter as our talented young performers took to the stage in the much-anticipated "Freaky Friday: The Musical"!
Based on the beloved novel and Disney films, "Freaky Friday" tells the extraordinary tale of a mother and daughter who magically switch bodies for a day. Congratulations to lead cast members Jordan Kharbat and Jay Scott from Avila College who took us on a journey of self-discovery, empathy, and the true meaning of family.
Months of hard work and dedication were poured into rehearsals by students from Avila and Mazenod, displaying their acting, singing, and dancing prowess. Supported by our talented crew and musicians, the stage was transformed into a world of music and magic. Congratulations to all involved.
All the best,
Dr Paul Shannon
