Special thanks are extended to Mr Parhar and the wonderful ASPS staff involved in coordinating and running the event.  Thanks also extended to a large team of parent volunteers who were also an integral part of what was a fantastic school event.

Under 12 Girls Soccer Regionals Champions!

By Olive Nantes and Ella Mae Varty

Captain: Ella Mae Varty

Vice Captain: Olive Nantes

The Under 12 girls soccer team went to  regionals on Thursday the 17 of August, the people that participated in this team were; Estelle Patinyot, Alyssa Alfieri, Evie Brooke, Afnan Hasan, Abby Lee, Olive Nantes, Milla Harrison, KK Mcarthy, Charlotte Mann, Ruby Ashton-Taylor, Ella Mae Varty and Lara Webb.

The first game we played against was Surrey Hills, we were all quite excited and nervous. The game against Surrey Hills was a bit of a competition but we managed to overcome them and score 3 goals for the win. The end game results were 3-0 our way. We had a little bit of a break between games and we watched the other teams competing against each other.

The next game we played was against Serpell, they were a bigger competition and we were prepared to play our hardest. The scores ended up 5-0 our way. The next game we played against was Emerald. They were an easier competition than the others but, they still had good structure and were trying their very hardest, the end results were 5-0 our way.

We made it to the Semi-Finals and everyone was very nervous but we put all our effort in for the team we were opposing. We were playing the 2nd in the league for the other pool St Simons, Our team played really well and we scored 2 goals in the 2nd Half.

We were off to the Grand Final (the end result was 2-0). We were all pretty happy at that point because last year’s Soccer team didn't make it to the grand finals. We made it to the semi’s and lost by a goal last year.

We watched the other 2 teams fight to get into the grand final ( Mt Scopus & Serpell) and it ended up being a penalty shoot out for the 2 teams. Mt Scopus won the penalty shoot out 4-5.

We were versing Mt Scopus in the Grand final. We were about to start so we had a group talk. We said “This is it, we will play our very hardest.” The team went out ready in the first 10 minutes it was still 0-0 and then we scored, our whole team went wild! The stands were screaming!  We continued our game and Mt Scopus started to play harder and harder, we had more opportunities to score but their goalkeeper was very good and strong. The last whistle was blown and everyone went wild! Our team huddled up and were really happy there were happy tears! And everyone was really proud of themselves.

In the end we had such a great experience and throughout  the games we had such a great time, with the team and everyone had such an amazing time. We can't wait to make it to State!

As a team we want to dedicate our win to Mr Parhar for training us in his spare time.

T-Ball Report: Regional Champions!

By Lara Webb

On Monday the 21st of August. 2023, the Auburn South girls T-ball team went to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Finals and competed to get through to the state's T-ball championships. There were eight teams competing in the Regional finals. It was going to be a tough competition. After getting through the division championships we had no changes to our side. The team was made up of Zahara Kittikoun , Ella Mae Varty, Alyssa Alfieri, Evie Brooke, Milla Harrison, Lana Stewart, Charlotte Mann, Taylor Burnet, Estelle Patinyot and Lara Webb.

We won all three games in our pool to go through to the first stage to the semi finals. (ASPS d Milgate 13-3, ASPS d St Patrick’s 16-2, ASPS d Wonga Park 15-5).

In our semifinal we played Mt Waverley Primary School. They were a good team, and it was an arm wrestle as they had some big hitters. We were able to catch a few of them out, and make a run as well, but it was close right up until the end. In the last innings, we needed three more to win and fortunately for us, we made the runs, and won the match by one run and were through to the grand final!

We played Lysterfield Primary School in the grand final. We knew this team we're going to be tough competition. We got out to an early lead, but they were able to fight back as ASPS struggled to score. It was very close up to the last innings. We needed three to win, and again we got it with some great hits and running by the team. We were through to the State finals!

We were also happy and excited. We had a lot of fun on the day. It was an awesome effort, and I was proud of our team as we qualified for the State Finals on 6 September.

Thank you to our coach, Mr. Parhar and the parents who came and supported us on the day.
