School Life @ ASPS

Year 3 Newsletter

This term, as part of our How We Organise Ourselves inquiry, we invited speakers from the ASPS community to share their knowledge of non-profit organisations.

Our speakers included:

  • Kate Barber (Lachie Hunter 3B) who spoke to us about Baptcare.
  • Georgina Perry (Jasper Haviland 3D) who spoke to us about the Scout movement
  • Eileen Siu (Estella Zhang 3C) who spoke about One Gift Wonder https://onegiftwonder.com.au/ and the charities they partner with.

We would like to thank these wonderful speakers for sharing their knowledge and provoking some great thinking in our students and inspiring them to take action.

Volunteering at ASPS

After reviewing our current processes, we have developed a Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook.

Going forward, all volunteers at ASPS (sporting events, classroom reading, excursions, SAKG, canteen etc.) will be required to read this handbook and return the two signed forms, along with their WWC, to the office.

Once this has occurred, then you can volunteer at ASPS.

Please find the Parent/Volunteer Helper Handbook below:

Book Week 2023

What an amazing Book Week Parade we had this morning in the beautiful sunshine! Big thanks to all of our Year 6 students, the library team (Judy and Lisa) and staff for their efforts in organising this year's event!

Canteen News

Emergency Lunches:

There has been a marked increase in the number of emergency lunches being provided each day by the Canteen.

This demand is not sustainable due to the staffing and volunteer challenges, so going forward, a new process will be in place.

  • Students will know if they have forgotten their lunch by recess after checking their bag
  • They can then go to the Canteen at recess and request an emergency lunch for that day
  • The cut-off for requesting an emergency lunch is 11:30am
  • Footy Finals Packs will be available from Wednesday 16th until end of term. Ordering in advance is recommended as these packs are limited to 20 a day and sold out last year
  • A new price list will be effective from Monday 7th August:

Replacement underwear

Please make sure that your child has a spare set of underwear & uniform in their school bag, especially the students in the younger years.

If your child has an accident at school and needs replacement underwear &/or uniform:

  • Parents will be notified of accident & need for replacement underwear &/or uniform via sick bay module in Xuno
  • Spare underwear provided in case of accidents
  • Parents to keep underwear
  • Parents will be asked to pay $2 per pair of underwear to office
  • Spare uniform will be provided if needed (dependent on items & sizes available from sick bay)
  • Families asked to wash & return uniform items to the sick bay

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Auburn South Primary School is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023.

Students’ from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Students’ from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All students’ who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
