Miss Mel's Message

Principal - St Brigid's Primary School

Term 3, Week 2

Welcome to a new term. Many exciting developments continue at St B’s.

School Community

The area along the Fisher Street fence line has been cleared as the bushes had become overgrown and dangerous and the plants had sharp spikes, and students had been getting scratched whilst playing in there. In September, we anticipate the arrival of three new cubby houses to create our first St B’s play village. The P&F has proudly provided its support for this exciting new development.

Wellbeing

Lulu continues to be a hit with staff and students and brings a smile to many faces.

We have begun preparations for anti-bullying week activities. We will hold events each day, culminating in a walk on Friday 18th August for the National Day of Action. Parents, students, and staff will all be involved in this very important whole-school event. Stay tuned for more details.

Earth Hour

Our Earth Hour afternoon on Friday 14th July Earth Hour (afternoon) was a huge hit. Students and teachers left the school grounds to play (footy, netball, dodgeball), ride, dog walk, and garden, in cross-age groups, depending on their own personal preferences to get away from technology for the afternoon. Student leaders were amazing in their roles and engagement. It was great to see so many happy faces. Definitely something worth doing again! Thank you for your combined support.

We love seeing our students being amazing advocates for the care of our environment. These little waste warriors have been picking up rubbish during their playtimes and making/displaying signs encouraging others to take action too. Small actions = big impact! We are very proud of Billie and Ella and the way you have inspired others to join you.

Building Update

The building works continue to progress with a slab being poured and a frame up. The handover date is expected to be at the beginning of October due to unexpected delays.

Faith and Mission

Bishop Terry visited our students on Friday 14th July in preparation for their Confirmation. From all reports, the students were extremely engaged. Confirmation masses were held at St Brigid’s church on Sunday 16th July with Father Denis, and Bishop Terry Curtin. Our community sends heartfelt congratulations to all candidates. May their commitment to faith and spiritual growth bring immense blessings and fulfillment.

Learning and Teaching

We continue to strengthen our learning and teaching of mathematics with Adam Bremner, our Maths leader, working alongside students and teachers within the classroom to model, guide, question, coach, and mentor, whilst highlighting our consistent pedagogical approach to teaching mathematics.

Nudel Kart Incursion

Students engaged enthusiastically in the Nudel Kart incursion, collaborating, problem-solving, and thinking critically and creatively. Thanks again to the P&F for the purchase of the Rover, which along with the Nudel Kart the school purchased, has been a huge success already in both learning spaces, and for lunchtime play in the hall. It is great to see the cross-age friendships forming.

Management

We wish to advise that Leigh Shore will not be returning to St Brigid’s. Annie Irwin has taken up the full-time teaching role in middle LS.

I am seeking willing parents to engage in a short chat with me to provide feedback on various aspects of the school. Please email me if you would be happy to be part of the parent group.

Please utilise the Parent Google Calendar, as this has up-to-date events.
